Individual Thoughts

RisaOverall Score: 8/10

Before researching and testing the shoe, if you had told me that the ForeverRUN Nitro was a neutral shoe, then I probably would have believed you. This non-intrusive, almost neutral feeling support seems to be the standard for modern stability shoes these days and a necessity if the brand intends to compete with the most popular in the category. PUMA definitely hit the mark with the ForeverRUN Nitro.

I enjoyed the ForeverRUN for everything from my shorter, speedier runs to my long efforts on the weekends. The furthest I took the ForeverRUN was 10 miles, but I could have easily gone further in this shoe. The midsole was highly protective and provided a nice little bounce, which helped keep things from feeling mushy. There are more protective options that are better catered to high-mileage runs, but the PUMA ForeverRun will have you covered for any effort under 15 miles.

In terms of fit, the ForeverRUN provided an excellent lockdown with a comfortable on-foot feel. It did run a bit warm, but this was not a huge issue, and I did not experience irritation throughout testing. For the runner looking for extra stability and is curious about PUMA running shoes, I would not hesitate to recommend the ForeverRUN Nitro.

KalebOverall Score: 8.5/10

I really enjoyed testing the PUMA ForeverRUN Nitro. The dual-layer Nitro foam midsole was well-balanced and had the versatility to provide an enjoyable running experience for all my daily training runs. The only thing I would not recommend the ForeverRUN Nitro for is speed workouts.

The midsole provides some bounce, but this specific formulation of Nitro foam is not the most responsive. It was very protective, and most importantly, it was stable. I always felt very sure-footed, and I believe runners needing mild to moderate stability support will love the ride of the ForeverRUN. Furthermore, like other modern stability shoes, PUMA's RUNGUIDE support system is not noticeable underfoot and is not at all intrusive.

The engineered mesh upper was very comfortable and delivered a secure hold. Also, the PWRTAPE overlays helped doubled-down on the upper's level of support. Unfortunately, like Risa, I found the upper to be warm. It has been cooler here on the Central Coast, and I still experienced some minor issues and some points of irritation. In the summer heat, I would probably opt for a more breathable shoe, but overall, this is a great shoe in the stability category, and many runners will benefit from having it in their rotation.

Our In-Depth Look

Upper

Risa: "I really enjoyed the secure lockdown and, I would say, snug fit of the ForeverRUN Nitro. The one downside of the upper was that my feet ran a little warm, which I rarely experience in a running shoe, and I was taking it out in winter (California winter, but still)."

Kaleb: "The engineered mesh upper fit very well with a comfortable and secure hold. I did not experience any major issues throughout testing but did find the upper to be a bit warm, and on long runs in hot Summer weather, I would be worried about hot spots and blisters. The PWRTAPE overlays provided good structure and keeps you locked over the midsole, contributing to the shoe’s level of stability."

Midsole

Risa: "I found the ForeverRUN midsole to be middle of the road when it came to softness. It is slightly soft with some bounce, but having just finished my review of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25, I hesitate to call the ForeverRUN a soft shoe. That said, the ForeverRUN is not super firm by any means, as some people may expect of a stability shoe. Above all, it did not feel like a stability shoe and neutral runners will be able to enjoy the ForeverRUN as well."

Kaleb: "The dual-layer Nitro foam midsole performed very well. For me, it was ideal for runs in the 5-7 mile, but the ForeverRUN was able to do it all, besides speedier workouts. It is more than protective enough to go long distances and has enough pop to keep shorter runs fun.

PUMA's RUNGUIDE stability system was excellent, and as a more neutral runner who enjoys non-intrusive stability support for days when the body needs extra help, the ForeverRUN was on par with some of the best in the stability category, in my opinion."

Outsole

Risa: "I was impressed by the grip of the ForeverRUN Nitro. I completed a couple of test runs after rainy weather and did not experience any slippage. The stickiness of the outsole was one of the first things that I noticed when I took the shoe out of the box."

Kaleb: "LIKE other parts of the shoe, the PUMAGRIP outsole did its job and did it well. The ForeverRUN gripped the pavement and provided consistent and reliable traction, even in wet, rainy conditions. I also think the outsole will last a long time. I put roughly 50 miles on the shoe throughout testing, and it has held up extremely well. Runners should be able to pack a bunch of mileage on the ForeverRUN Nitro."

Comparable Models

Risa: "My closest comparison to the ForeverRUN Nitro would be other non-intrusive, slightly soft stability shoes, like the Mizuno Wave Inspire or ASICS GT 2000. I would personally opt for the ForeverRUN over these other models as the midsole is more responsive, and the shoe overall is much more comfortable on the run."

Kaleb: ""When I first put on the ForeverRUN, I got some major HOKA Bondi vibes. Understandably, these two shoes are not in the same category, but the underfoot sensation felt very protective and comfortable.

Compared to other stability shoes, I think the PUMA ForeverRUN can compete with the best in the category. Its stability support is non-intrusive, and the ForeverRUN almost feels like a highly stacked neutral trainer. Other shoes, like the HOKA Arahi and New Balance 860, offer a lighter, more breathable experience, but the ForeverRUN feels more lively than the Arahi and much more protective than the 860."
