Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.
Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have a built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stable

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

The VECTIV Infinite 3 is The North Face's supremely versatile trail running shoe, designed to offer a fast yet protective ride over technical terrain. Whether navigating rocky trails or fast descents, this shoe stands out for its perfect balance of agility, stability, and comfort.

Starting in the midsole, we see a new compound made with DREAM nitrogen-TPU foam that is ultralight and responsive. The updated foam is paired with a full-length VECTIV 3.0 TPU plate that's optimized for technical terrain. It enhances propulsion and stability, helping you maintain your pace even over extended distances. To help keep you going, the shoe's rockered geometry promotes forward momentum and lateral support for a smooth and efficient stride over any trail.

To keep steady on challenging terrain TNF's SURFACE CTRL rubber outsole features deep 5 mm lugs that stick to variable surfaces with ease.

The upper also gets an update, with an improved heel fit and integrated tongue wings. This enhanced lockdown in the heel and midfoot makes sure you'll feel secure with every step. Lastly, the seamless upper is engineered with mapped venting zones to enhance airflow and boost performance.

If you're looking for a lightweight high-performance trail shoe that excels in technical terrain while offering premium comfort and stability, The North Face VECTIV Infinite 3 is your ideal choice.

What You'll Love:

  • Improved heel fit and midfoot lockdown
  • More midsole foam and significantly lighter than the previous version
  • Energetic nitrogen-infused midsole

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Pretty decent mountain shoe....I like this shoe for conditions that don't include wet rocks or stream crossings. The midsole/outsole combo perform well in most conditions here in northern NM, but the outsole is a deal breaker for wet rocks or pavement. Midsole has quite a bit of compression set after 100 miles, so the durability is somewhat dubious. La Sportiva Prodigio Pro is a far more capable and dialed shoe that is also more durable.

Do it all trainer/racerGot these after trying the new Vectiv Enduris which had way more cushion than I needed. Infinites are the perfect do it all trainer that I would happily race up to 50k in, and probably take for a 50mi. The new midsole foam is super plush, and the new rocker feels a bit more aggressive than the last iterations, so they definitely rip on flatter terrain, but I'm docking them a star because there a sacrifice on more technical terrain. The outsoles are great and compete well with Vibram Megagrip, especially on bare rock, but the rocker and plush foam make me a little bit less happy in steep and uneven terrain. If I lived out west these would be 5/5, but on the beast coast I'd trade some of that bounce and pop on fast sections for a little more stability rock hopping. Still awesome shoes, I like them better than Speedgoats, cheaper than the SLAB stuff, and they stick better to granite slab better than anything that doesn't have Megagrip. I wear size 11 in everything and these fit true to size with plenty of forefoot room.
