Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.
Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have a built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stable

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

The midsole is equipped with an updated full-length ZipFoam, which provides enough cushioning for comfort while maintaining a lively and energetic feel underfoot. The zero-drop construction puts the foot in a balanced alignment and promotes a mid-foot strike with a natural stride pattern.

In the outsole is Vibram Megagrip to claw into any type of terrain and can be trusted in different conditions. How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Not in LoveMy initial impressions of the shoe were good. I felt secure lockdown in the heel, and the toe box is wide enough for my toes to splay in my normal size. The outsole gives plenty of traction. The midsole is beefy enough to protect my feet over sharp rocks on the trail. My complaints about this shoe are the durability and fit. After running in these once the loop that holds the laces in place was torn/frayed. I also had to remove the insole halfway through my run because it was constricting my arch. I have medium/high arches, but I don’t like that much arch support. I felt that despite the zero drop the shoe did not have a natural feel to accompany it. The insole is also somewhat slippery and my feet slid forward in the shoe on steep descents, despite lacing them tightly. I believe this shoe would be a great workhorse for someone who wants a very specific fit, but it’s not for me.

Heel Perfection Meets Firm PerformanceAbsolutely loving the Topo shoe! It reminds me a lot of Altra in terms of overall feel, but with a slightly firmer, more structured ride than I expected. That said, what really impressed me is the fit—especially in the heel. This area is usually a problem for me, often feeling loose or causing rubbing. But with these, the heel fit is spot-on—secure, comfortable, and no irritation at all. A great surprise!

Comfort and performance out of the boxMy go to trail sneaker is the HOKA One One that I've had for 10+ years. The new version doesn't compare. I found the heal too soft and causing pain. I switched to TOPO based on the RW reviews. They do not disappoint. Comfort right out of the box. Great grip on rocky terrain. No discomfort whatsoever. Fits true to size. Great price. Can't beat it. I only buy from RW, a trusted source for quality and service.

Awesome fit and functionTrue to size. Roomy toe box and well fitted heel. Flexes well with the foot. Good support and just cushy enough for me. Perfect shoe volume: my foot fits securely in the shoe. Great trail shoe overall, WTG Topo!

Best 0 drop shoe!I have been back and forth with Altra and Topo for my trail runs over the years. I found that the Topo's last a lot longer and are an all-around better quality shoe. I was originally going to run my recent 50 miler in the Altra Timp 5 due to them having a little more pop to them but decided to go with the Topo due to my great history with their MTN racer 3 and also having more room in the toe box for your pinky toes. Ran 50 miles in these with 0 issues and 0 blisters! I highly recommend these shoes if you currently run in Altra's.

Great for the mountainsThis is my second pair of Topo’s and I’m just as happy with these as the first pair. I’ve been doing a lot of running in the White Mountains and the cushion, support and traction are excellent. I got these for the zero drop to help with ITBS and they work great.

My Go To Trail Shoe.I've put 107 trail miles on the Maine trails in the first month of owning the Pursuit 2. I mostly ran wet, rocky, AT trails that were super technical. I sized up 1/2 size from my normal 11.5 to a 12 after running in the Mt Racer months before and realizing that I needed more fwd space. The 12 works perfect. Cushion has remained consistent and durability is outstanding so far. The FKT beaded insole is fantastic and doesn't hold water. I will purchase another when this one wears out. I totally recommend, if 0mm drop works for you.

Great shoeGreat shoe! Better than the last version, lighter and dries quickly when wet. Ran a 50 miler in them and feet were soaked and I had no blisters. Well cushioned, Plan on running my 100 miler in them next month. Does well on both dry trails and mud. My old pursuits have over 500 miles on them and still look great so I expect this shoe to hold up well! Would definitely recommend
