Our In-Depth Look
The ASICS GT 2000 14 is for you if...
You want a lighter-weight stability shoe
You’re looking for an accessible do-it-all shoe
You prefer a shoe that skews slightly firmer than soft
What is the ASICS GT 2000 14 made for?
The ASICS GT 2000 14 is a stability daily trainer that’s meant to bring the easy accessibility of ASICS' neutral daily trainers, like the Cumulus series, to those people who need a bit more structure for their stride. Typically, stability trainers run heavier than their neutral stride counterparts, and while that’s still technically the case here, ASICS has done a good job of mitigating those weight increases as much as possible throughout the GT 2000 series. The shoes have established themselves as reliable, blissfully versatile trainers—ones that ensure runners are supported where needed, but which keep things lighter and more playful than some of the other stability trainers on the market.
Version 14 of the GT 2000 continues this tradition admirably, and we walked away from our time with the shoes happily impressed by ASICS’ latest iteration of a classic.
Comfort
We found the ASICS GT 2000 14 to be overwhelmingly pleasant, comfortable shoes. The upper felt light and breathable, while the midsole felt just cushioned enough without sacrificing support. We completed a range of runs, stretching from short mileage warm-ups all the way to long runs in the shoes, and enjoyed the on-foot feeling equally throughout them all. Our one point of dissatisfaction was that we found the tongue to be a little too thin, and it rubbed against our skin whenever we wore low-cut socks, but we liked the shoes enough that making conscious sock choices was worth the effort.
Performance
Like with any daily trainer, versatility is the key performance metric that we’re considering. For a shoe to really shine as a DAILY trainer, it’s got to handle fast as well as it handles slow, and has to balance plushness with propulsiveness. With that in mind, the GT 2000 14 did everything we asked of it surprisingly well. Across easy runs, long runs, and some light speedwork, the GT 2000 showed off its flexibility and utility. The shoes were light enough to push the pace without making us feel like we were carrying bricks on our feet, but they also had enough cushion underfoot to carry us through longer efforts comfortably. It’s a stability daily trainer that doesn’t skimp on the support and won't shy away from any of the runs in your training plan.
Fit
The GT 2000 14 fits true to size. It’s a medium-width shoe that never felt crowded in the toe box, and which matched the fit of the other ASICS shoes in our lineups. We were worried that the shoe’s thin tongue would create lockdown issues, but fortunately, no hotspots, pinch points, or other fit-based nuisances materialized.
Individual Thoughts
Being a Kayano fan (especially the current 32 model), I was curious if the GT 2000 would give me the support and cushion I need and enjoy. And it did! The GT 2000 offers me an alternative with its slightly lighter feel. Although built for daily training, for this slower runner, the GT 2000 14 felt like my “speedy” shoe, without sacrificing the support I need. I also really liked the faster mint colorway. The only negative for me ended up being some slight irritation from the tongue (easily fixed with ankle or crew socks). The shoe lacks some of the plush that I get with the Kayano, but long term, it will be staying in my rotation for my 3-5 mile runs.

Overall, this shoe can do a little bit of everything. Taking it through easy runs, long runs, pick-ups, tempo intervals, and strides, I felt that the shoe was able to keep up in every run without me wanting or needing more from it. To be clear, this shoe isn’t going to help you go quicker or give the same energy return as other shoes during faster paces, but it can keep up with whatever your current abilities may be if you aren’t ready for a multi-shoe arsenal. I was pleasantly surprised at the fit since ASICS often run on the narrower side, and I have a wider foot.
