VJ Lightspeed Review
Individual Thoughts

I was curious to try out the VJ Lightspeed, in part, because it is a new brand for us here at Running Warehouse. Honestly, I was impressed by how lightweight and fast the shoe was. The outsole grip also proved itself very dependable on various trail types. Immediately during my first run, I felt like the VJ Lightspeed wanted to go fast, and I really appreciated the responsiveness of the midsole, even enjoying it for a couple of road-to-trail efforts throughout the testing period.
However, as a runner who prioritizes comfort and loves plush cushioning, the Lightspeed was not my ideal trail running shoe. Furthermore, I do not think this shoe would work well for those who need a breathable shoe to keep their feet cool on the run, as I found the upper to be a bit warm. I have narrow feet and the VJ Lightspeed fit my foot well with a secure and snug fit. That said, it may not be the best option for wide-footed runners.
For trail runners looking for a lightweight shoe for racing or fast trail efforts and prefer a firm, responsive ride, the Lightspeed is an exciting new option.
Our In-Depth Look
Upper
Risa: "I liked how secure the VJ Lightspeed upper was throughout testing; however, I found it to be thick and that it ran a little hot. I also personally would have preferred it to be softer and less structured. I have narrow feet and I have a hard time imagining this shoe working for those with feet on the wider side."
Midsole
Risa: "The VJ Lightspeeds midsole is on the firmer side overall, though it did deliver a nice level of responsiveness, which I appreciated on the trails. I felt like this shoe wanted to go fast from the minute I started running in it, and I would personally reserve this shoe for fast training runs or race day."
Outsole
Risa: "In preparation for this review, I had heard that the outsole really stood out as a highlight of the shoe, and after testing, I would 100% agree. The outsole may be the best feature of the Lightspeed for me. It felt really grippy, and the shoe felt like it shined the brightest when on the most rocky, technical trail segments. The shoe was protective enough while providing some ground feel. I felt very stable despite the shoe's relatively narrow platform."
Comparable Models
VJ Lightspeed vs. Saucony Peregrine 14
Risa: "The Saucony Peregrine 14 is my closest point of reference for a comparison to the VJ Lightspeed. The Peregrine 14 is a daily trainer while the VJ Lightspeed is a racing shoe, so it makes sense that I found the Peregrine to be more comfortable (both in the midsole and upper.) The Lightspeed has a much faster feel and is around an ounce lighter than the Peregrine, which is impressive! Both have excellent outsoles for technical terrain."
