Road running shoes feature smooth outsoles that are designed for running on paved surfaces such as roads, sidewalks, and bike paths.

  • Smooth Trails & FireroadsSmooth Trails & Fireroads

Designed to handle most trail runs, these shoes prioritize comfort and a smooth ride. These shoes are great for anything from smooth singletrack, park trails, and fireroads making them ideal for those who run from their doorstep on streets before hitting the trail.

  • Rocky & Technical TrailsRocky & Technical Trails

These shoes are best used for hard, rugged trails such as shale, granite or sandstone where grip on smooth surfaces and underfoot protection are important.

  • Soft & Muddy TrailsSoft & Muddy Trails

Designed for use in muddy, soggy conditions, these shoes feature very aggressive outsoles that dig deep into soft ground for exceptional traction.

  • Snowy & Icy TrailsSnowy & Icy Trails

These shoes feature technical outsoles designed to grip snowy and icy trails making them ideal for winter trail running.

Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.

Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral Running Shoes

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stability Running Shoes

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Highlights:

The ASICS Gel Nimbus 26 continues its legacy as one of the most popular neutral running shoes thanks to its ample cushioning and supreme comfort.

With an emphasis on softness and sustainability, the midsole now incorporates FLYTEFOAM BLAST+ ECO foam, which delivers an even more cloud-like and responsive ride. ASICS' signature PureGEL Technology is strategically placed under the heel to ensure optimal impact absorption while maintaining a lightweight and plush feel, and step-in comfort is elevated further by the inclusion of the OrthoLite X-55 Sockliner for a luxurious sensation the moment you lace on the shoes.

The outsole of the Gel Nimbus 26 boasts a redesigned Hybrid ASICSGRIP rubber, which enhances traction and durability without compromising the shoe's smooth ride. This, combined with long-lasting AHAR rubber, results in a lightweight yet robust outsole that delivers superior grip.

Finally, the Nimbus' premium design extends to the updated knit upper, which provides a soft and breathable feel while the knit collar and midfoot design ensure a secure and comfortable hold on your foot. Whether you're looking for a versatile companion for daily runs or a highly cushioned workhorse for longer distances, the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 26 is up to the challenge, offering a blend of comfort, performance, and durability that any runner can appreciate.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Perfect blend of soft & responsivenessThe ASICS cumulus 26 has the perfect blend of soft cushion & responsiveness. I tried the Novablast but the shoe was too aggressive for me. The nimbus has a plush soft feel, but needed something that had more feel for my feet. The cumulus hit the sweet spot. It’s a great daily trainer that I can utilize for for workouts, recovery runs, & long runs. Just the right amount of responsiveness so I can navigate any terrain- track trail or roads. The cushioning is ideal so I don’t feel beat up, but also don’t get lost in the squish. It’s slightly different feel than the version 25 of the cumulus. A smoother ride that is lighter & more versatile.

Decent dailyBeen hearing about this shoe for years and I see why people like it. It did take me 20 ish miles to break them in and get the true comfortability out of them. But now I have them in my rotation for easy and long runs. Nothing crazy about them in my opinion but a nice daily trainer.

Very comfortable, highly cushioned, good fitJust right for my level of running, the rolling action of the graphite plate shoes hurts my feet. This gives a good boost without the rolling gait. Also love the oversized pull on straps over the heel and 4X availability.

Coming from gt2000These shoes are very comfortable for walking, jugging and running. They have the most cushion of any shoe I have had. It was surprising but am now used to it. I would recommend based on first month of daily use.

Cushy and bouncyI expected these to be less responsive a more squishy but they actually strike a great balance with how responsive they feel. They have been great for a long runs and short runs alike. I would recommend to anyone looking for a daily runner!

AsicsDespie the fact that Asics continues to make an excellent shoe, they also continue to make them on the narrow side. Even when a shoe is advertised as "wide" or "extra wide" that remains totally relative. After all the work that goes into making such a fine product, one would think that focusing a little more on a truly wider shoe would be a no-brainer.

Easy on my knees.I have the beginnings of arthritis in my knees; one more than the other. These shoes give me the cushion I need while also being responsive so it doesn't feel like I'm running through mud. I will be getting another pair of these when my current ones wear out.

Just OKI'm recovering from a bad bout of plantar fasciitis right now and have tried MANY shoes before these. After my first walk in them I honestly thought they were going to work out...they were very plush and comfortable. However, when I tried to run in them they started to hurt my foot in other areas than my plantar fascia. It almost felt like they were TOO plush for running with no responsiveness in the cushioning, and it was making my foot work harder to come back out of landings during running. I'm sure they are fine for other people just didn't work out for me. After MANY tries and returns, I've finally found the perfect shoe for my recovery in the Puma Magmax! It's AMAZING!!!!

ASICS GEL NIMBUS 26The Gel Nimbus 26 fits almost exactly like the 25. So fit, and feel will be almost exactly the same for those wanting everything they got out of the 25. The Gen Nimbus 26 does feel like the foam padding in the sole of the shoe is a tad bit softer. The toe box is spacious for my feet and the heel feels locked in once they are laced up. I have now worn these almost two months at work where I am constantly walking and standing with clients and they definitely save my feet and legs as the day goes on.

Major improvementsI've been running in Nimbus for more years than I can remember and have always liked and depended on them for comfort, versatility, and durability. Last year's version (the 25) was a surprise. They were an entirely new design, much softer, much less support--generally "squishy," which inhibited running on any surface that wasn't absolutely flat and smooth. The 26 has corrected that and has found a balance between comfort and support. I'm finding it much improved.

Not for meThis shoe was recommended by the salesperson as an alternative to the HOKA Bondi 8. The cushion is great, but the support is not. I am experiencing back pain as a result. Also, these do not mitigate the neuropathy in my right foot like the Bondi 7. I cannot get more than 5 miles before the discomfort starts. Fortunately the Bondi 7 is back and I have already purchased a pair through another supplier. Hopefully I can return these, but I have worn them several times in the last 40 days so we'll see.

Good TrainerUsing these for marathon training. Luxurious feeling. Toes are a little tight I’m getting more blistering than my last shoe. Top is roomy on my tall feet and soft, very comfortable. They stay in place really well. Tougher to slip on than my last shoes which could be seen as a positive but I’m lazy and I just slip on and go. Usually have to adjust my socks after I do.

Very comfortable for plantars facitisI've been having such a heard time finding some comfy shoes. I tried several of the other high end and they either hurt my lower back or my heel hurt. These are like soft pillows on my feet. I love that the tongue is stretchy too. While I'm not a runner, I can feel how this would make you want to. I work on hard concrete floors and these are a game changer! The toe box is great and they fit true to size. They are definitely worth the price. I absolutely love these!

Great stability shoe!I had Nova lasts prior to these but the Nova lasts were very thin at the top/rubbing my toes and they were lighter and provided less stability. Since I was doing speed workouts on an uneven field, and preparing for a mostly downhill half marathon, I decided to give these a try! They are a little heavier, wider at the top, and overall provided the stability I was looking for!

Easy RideThird set of Asics but the first time upgrading from the Cumulus model. Asics have been my go to shoe for years, and the Numbus continues to be a satisfying shoe. I try different shoes on occasion but had a bad experience with a plated shoe being unstable and stressing my knees. The Asics is an excellent recovery shoe. Even though the stack height is high, the fit feels well settled within the shoe and stable. Not a fast shoe but very comfortable over 5K. Asics seem to run slightly small so I ordered it a half size up, and the extra wide is very good for my flat feet.

Workhorse TrainerThis shoe is built to take a beating, it is on the softer side compared to a snappy shoe like the Nike Invincibles. I would recommend it to runners looking for an easy/recovery shoe to add to their rotation. This shoe is great for strides but can get a little more iffy, for longer speed work due to it's weight.

Great shoeI’ve been running for the better part of 25 years, so I have tried plenty of shoes. For the past few years I had only been using Hoka for my longer runs and Nike for my faster runs, and I had not given any thought to using any other shoe, especially not ASICS since I had used them many years ago and I had not liked the fit and the feel. My feet had been aching no matter what shoe I wore, even if I rotated shoes every run, my feet would not feel better. I saw this shoes a my local Dicks store and I decided to try them out, let me tell you that I felt instant relief on my feet so I decided to order them as soon as I could. I am glad I tried them on that day, I have been using this shoes for my long slow runs (6-10 miles) and my feet have felt great. The only gripe I have about this shoes is that I get a little hot spot in the ball of my foot after about mile 6 if I pick up the pace but it’s not bad or annoying enough to stop running or dislike the shoe.
