Endorphin speed 3 replacementFor context: 5.7 distance runner with 5 years running experience; mid foot striker with high cadence; 175 lbs. 110 miles and this shoe still sings. Great for anything EZ pace to Marathon pace so I use it primarily for my EZ runs and long run, which is 10-12 miles atm. Strides are fun in it too. Fits TTS. Have not been a fan of the recent FF blast iterations but this FF Blast Max midsole is definitely an intriguing EVA. It's soft yet bouncy and resilient. I don't get sensation of running in sand like I do with the recent 1080 and Gel nimbus. The outsole is much improved as well from previous Novablasts. No slipping in rainy runs on concrete for me and handles buffed out trails and fire roads just fine. Upper is fantastic. Everything about the upper says premium, even the laces are great. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because PUMAGRIP exists and the naming of ASICS outsole compounds is annoying. I'll say one thing on the stability: this is a true neutral shoe again and I think most people who experienced pain in this shoe have been running in stable neutral shoes for a while. My first few runs gave me some new mild aches and pains but that's likely due to me running in the Superblast 1 and Speed 4s for the last few months. I adapted just fine tho and my legs feel great after every run in these now. In summary, this is a phenomenal update from ASICS that brings a ton of bouncy fun and comfort at great price. I'm not sure what the future holds for EVA foams but this one can hang with the more modern foams if you ask me.

Not this year…I’ve been a long time Novablast runner, but this iteration is causing me to look elsewhere. For context, I have a narrow and somewhat low volume foot. I think the 5’s became noticeably wider than the 4’s. I’ve noticed some consistent irritation in the distal attachment of my anterior tibialis tendon due to the need to crank on the laces to feel mildly secure in the shoe. I feel that the addition of a runner’s knot has minimal improvement to this problem, and is something I’m trying to avoid as the tongue has been shortened a good bit as well. Negative points aside, I do think the new midsole foam has a good feel but won’t be getting long term durability testing out of the shoe to confirm how well it holds up. Can’t confirm but I would speculate that this still is a nice daily option for a runner with wider feet.

The worst trainer I’ve ever ran in.Can’t even call this shoe a trainer, it’s more like a Chinese finger trap and rock tumbler for your feet. I put less than 50 miles on them and my ankles are feeling pain that I haven’t felt in my entire life. If you are a mid-foot striker, easy runs will be no problem but long runs will hurt after 6+ miles. If you are a forefoot striker, like myself, be prepared to start a gofundme for ankle surgery. Everything good about the Novablast 4 was stripped away in the 5, it’s not the same shoe at all, the 4 is the greatest trainer ever created and the 5 is a torture device. The snappiness is gone in this new model. The foam is too soft so that it’s not even a high cushion shoe at all. The toe box and heel are both way too roomy. This is a walking shoe, at best. The only good update about this shoe is the laces, only because the laces for the 4 were so bad. ASICS, please do better. If you’re expecting anything out of the 5 that’s remotely close to the 4, just stop. The 5 is as if I had a fever dream about the 4 and created the new model based on that myself. Don’t buy this shoe. Hopefully the 6 is better.

Over HypedI've been running in the Superblast V1. Thought I would save $60 and got the Novablast. I find them wildly unstable. The wide toe box allowed my forefoot to move medially into the shoe and the super plush cushioning lacks any arch support. The second run in them led to strain on lower lateral leg. I don't see how so many people could hype this shoe when it's clearly lacking in even the slightest support.

I returned shoe but did not agree with meI want to be clear, this is a great shoe, but not for me. I think it looks great, It is designed great and perfectly cushioned, but not for me. When I walk on the shoe, wow great love it. Running at a 10 minute mile it is slappy and i get minimal cushion. It just is flat. If I ramp up to a 7-8 minute mile, clearly my form improves and it is not slappy. I feel somewhat more protective. This tells me two things and I appreciate this. 1. My form breaks down at slower speeds. I need to fix my form. 2. This is not the right shoe for my easy pace. I can see most runners loving this and I think it is a great shoe. It honestly loses 1 point as a reminder that not every shoe is for everyone. i am 5'10 180lb male and I think it will work for alot of heavier runners like myself. If you are in the 12 minute mile pace, Asics has better offerings, this is still more of a performance shoe than say a nimbus or cumulus. I would treat this only as a speed day shoe if you needed that.

Felt like the Novablast 2'sIn recent new novablast shoes I have not been a fan of how it felt like I was being forced to my forefront as much as the 2's did. The 2's were less extreme than the 4's, I cannot speak on the 3's. All that being said the 5's feel similar to the 2's in the sense as it does not push you on your forefront as much as the 4's. I got over 600 miles out of the 2's and the 5's I now have I hope to get to 500 or so. The shoe has a great rock to it and I have used it for daily miles as well as long runs with some hard miles in it.

Great all-around shoeFeels great right out of the box. While v4 was good, v5 is better, especially in the cushioning category. True to size with a spacious but not loose fit. Good traction when it's wet. Soft and resilient ride without feeling like it's bottoming out or too mushy.

Super pleasedAdded these to my rotation and I’m ordering a second pair. Protective, lightweight and responsive. Softer than the Saucony Speed 4’s but not squishy. Much softer and smoother than the Puma Deviate 3’s. They are slightly wide on my narrower foot, but all in all I am super pleased.

Slightly better than Novablast 4If you like NB 4, you will like NB 5. However, it runs about 1/2 size large. I wore a 11.5 wide in the NB 4 and the same size in NB 5 is too long.

So Far So Good....As advertised, it's really versatile, very light weight, great cushion, fairly responsive. My only complaint is that with the elevated stack height the proportion of cushion is heavily weighted to the back of the shoe - great for heel strikers, but when I picked up the pace to a tempo+ effort, the midfoot cushion leaves a bit to be desired. With that being said, it's a great, all-around, versatile shoe that can be used for all types of runs.
