Clunky and holes in upper at 200 mi.I immediately thought these soles were a bit stiff, and the uppers too thick. Even the tongue is a stiff molded material. I should have just returned them right away but needed something to train in. I ended up running a marathon in them. With just 200 miles of use they have developed holes in the toe crease area on both shoes.

Redesigned ankle makes Torin 7 unwearableI've run in the Torin series since they first came out and have loved them - they have been the perfect shoe for my foot. Unfortunately, the Torin 7 redesigned the outer ankle area: it it a firmer material that is noticeably taller than the previous versions. The outer portion of the shoe rubs against my ankle bone in a way such that I can't wear them for a short, casual walk, much less running any distance. It's a shame, because I think it's a great shoe otherwise, but I'm giving this pair away and buying something different as I can't wear them for any length of time or any activity without discomfort.

The roominess I neededI was running in the Nimbus and appreciated the deep cushioning, but I felt a bit scrunched in the forefoot. These were just what I needed to avoid pain in the toebox area. And I’m getting to enjoy the ground-connected feel!

Torin 7 has improved tongue; a bit biggerThe Torin 5 had a sharpish edge on the tongue, the 6 was a bit better. The 7 is much better. The 7 feels more cushioned. It is also larger - I had to get a half size smaller than usual for the right fit.

First Zero Drop/Wide Toebox ShoeSwitched to 'natural' footwear 6 months ago to help with some PF in the feet. Decided to try Altra. Bought this Torin 7 on clearance. Toebox feels great in width but is shallow in depth. Had some issues first few runs; shoe has broken in and feels better but still a bit shallow. Midsole a tad firm. This shoe feels slow; perhaps it's the zero drop/wide platform but I have to work harder to get the same pace as in 'standard' shoes (Saucony Endorphin line, for instance). I'm glad I made the switch and these shoes are growing on me. Hoping zero drop/wide toebox/natural shoes restores health to my feet.

Great shoe - glue failed on sole before useGreat shoe and love the fit. Unfortunately the glue failed and sole started peeling before use. I was able to fix this with super glue but is really disappointing from such a well known brand such as Altra. Hoping the shoes hold up to 400+ miles as reviews I have read. To be determined!

Not very comfortableI’ve been wearing the Altra Torin since the beginning. I’ve worn the same size the entire time as well. This version hurts my feet on the outside of my foot. The shoe seems to fit correctly but starts causing me pain after 20 minutes of running. Not a fan of this version of the Torin.

Altra Torin 7 men’sMuch improved over 5 (tongue was sharp and cut into forefoot) and 6 (tongue would angle into side Of shoe when running). Nice cushion and the Torin model has been my go to for distance runs over half marathon for about seven years.

Best shoeThe altra totin has been a game changer for me! I have run several road and trail endurance races which always resulted in busted up toes and sore feet. Ever since switching to the torin i haven’t had to take time off in order to mend my toes. Their natural wide toe box provides my feet with optimal room but not so much that they slide around and get blisters. I have recommended this shoe to everyone I know!

Wanted To Love!I switched out my Hokas for Altras several years ago and was running along happily in the Torin(Escalante and Timp) up through the 4 Plush. Then Altra sold their company and weird things started to happen with the Torin(and Timp). The tongue became bigger and stiffer which I foolishly tried to ignore and push through -- NG! I waited patiently, trying(and returning) each consecutive version. I gave up on the Torin and switched to the Paradigm (6) which had a bit more stack but was comfortable and worked well for longer training runs. After reading some decent reviews for Torin 7 I decided to give them another shot. At first, I felt a sigh of relief -- the footbed was cush! BUT WAIT. Why does the shoe come up so high on the outside of the ankle? And why is it so STIFF? And that tongue again, though slightly improved, is still huge and kind of hard. Against my better judgement, I took them for a spin and gauged out my ankle groove. Returned these for the Paradigm 7 (RW didn't have my size in stock so ordered directly from Altra)which so far have all of the plusses and none of the painful minuses of the Torin 7.

Great shoe!I have 4 pair and will stick to 0 drop. Why? I have come to realize that heel to toe drops do enable you to run faster. And that's what everyone wants right? And shoe companies will deliver speed. But it comes at a cost. Heel to toe propulsion is not natural, your foot or any running animal is not designed for it. So designers stack foam under your heel to make up for this. But sooner or later the unnatural running form it enables will result in injuries (over and over) and an inability to sustain years and years of injury free running. So why do you run? If you do it for health then you need to be injury free and consistent. If it's to run a PR (for your pride) then go for the heel to toe drop that even Altra is now doing. But don't be surprised by all your nagging injuries. Interesting fact: I have also lowered by daily mileage with these but because I am consistent and injury free my month over month mileage has shot up.

Super cushioned !Really great cushioning for easy or long runs. I usually wear a 10 in most running shoes but the 10 for these was way too big. I returned them and got a 9.5, which after going for a run in feel too small. Such a bummer! If you can get your size right, the shoe is amazing!

Heel BreakdownIn less than two weeks a hard plastic piece protruded through the fabric that cups the heel of my right foot, cutting fairly deeply into the heel. I’m not sure if this was just a bad shoe or a common thing. Runners Warehouse very promptly refunded the full purchase price.

Ankle destroyerI was super pumped for this pair of shoes, my first pair of Altras, after my wife and all my friends raved about them. I love the toe box and the zero drop. I thought I just needed to let this shoe break in before it stopped hurting my ankles. But after putting about 100 miles in these shoes they are now actively holding me back from longer runs and have started causing bleeding on the outside of my ankles. Avoid these shoes.

Knee Pain ReliefJust bought my 3rd pair of Torin’s, they are the best for knee pain. I’ve had 4 knee surgeries and constantly battle swelling and arthritis pain, but the zero drop shifts pressure downward and alleviates many of my issues. I actually tried to switch to the New Balance low drop fresh foam, but instantly had significant swelling despite how soft and comfy they felt. I run both indoors and outdoor, ~70 miles/mo, 4-6 miles per run on average.

Great shoeThis is my wife's favorite shoe for walking and running. For a long time she wore Brooks Adrenalines, but was having issues with her feet. Altra Torins are about as opposite as you can get from the Adrenalines but for her, these shoes work well. The wide toe box is great for her feet.

Pleasantly SurpisedI run (ran) in the Hoka Clifton but have been hampered by hamstring pain in both legs. I decided to give the Torins a go as I felt I was over striding and had bad posture with the Cliftons. Indeed, I could feel my stride shortening, my posture upright, my toe off more pronounced and not rolling into my hamstrings. If pair continue, I will buy another pair and ditch the Cliftons. By the way, I used to run in the Altra Tempo but I changed for some reason.

Good Running ShoeThey lack the really thick padding around the ankle if you are used to that (I got a blister on the first run with these), but after a few runs that part of the shoe gets more broken in. Very, very comfortable shoe for those who have wider feet. I added the elastic shoe laces to mine after a few runs and they seem to fit even better. I like these quite a bit.

Very DisappointedI have been using Torin for a long time now, but the last two models are just terrible. The Torin 6 tongue was so hard it cut my leg and now the Torin 7 is not true to size. All my previous Torins are 8 or 7.5W, however the Torin 7 is extremely large. I bought the 8 and 7.5 and they are so big that my inserts are loose inside. I have specially made inserts made to fit 7.5-8 shoes. I am considering using Hoka from now on. This is just sad.

I love them! This is my second pair of the Torin 7s. I love them. I do have a slightly narrow foot--I know some have complained that the wide toe box is a bit smaller on these, but it works for me. I personally like the blend of stiffness and cushion. I ran JFK 50 miler 23 in my previous pair, and am phasing these in (with my Torin 6s as alternate) for training for this year's JFK.

Torin 7I am running the Altra Torin 7 now. I have been a fan of the Torin line now for 5 years starting with the Torin 3. Too narrowI have been a long-time Altra fan. I am really disappointed in the newer versions of the torin. They are not the same shoe I loved for years. The toe box is more foot-shaped than other brands, but the shoe overall is incredibly narrower than the past versions that I loved. Their new "standard" fit fits like any other brand on the market. The feature that made these shoes stand out for me is no longer an Altra feature. While they may be gaining customers, they are losing their long time fans. I cannot even put into words how disappointed I am. I would give it zero stars if I could. Altra has lost a customer and I actively tell people to stay away from this brand.

What I hoped it would beI've always mixed in an Altra shoe here or there in my rotation, but the latest Escalante was too minimalist for me and I didn't enjoy running in it. The Torin solves this problem. It doesn't feel as aggressive as a "true" 0 drop shoe, but it's certainly still quite low, while being far more comfortable with a slight rockered feel and smooth ride.
4 out of 5 Stars
Better than the Torin 6An improvement from the Torin 6. The upper is more breathable and comfy, the ride is more forgiving and responsive, and the outsole is more durable. However, the upper still tears on the lateral sides of the shoe. If they would fix the adhesive they use for the uppers it would be a 4.5 of 5.0.

Not a TorinI’ve ran in several iterations of the torin dating back to the 3 I believe. These 7s are NOT a Torin. Bulky. Too much stack. Not flexible. Too much shoe.

This new model is a step up!I have been wearing Altra Torin for the last 7 years or so. I'm always a little nervous when a new model comes out because I generally like the last one and don't want to get used to the next model. But the new Torin 7s are an improvement on the Torin 6s. They are more comfortable with a softer, even cozier insole. Still great, wide toe box area and still available in lots of colors. I am happy that there was a sale on these and I was able to get two pairs. Happy Running to All!

Torin 7 Returns Line to Optimal PerformanceThe Torin 7 soft upper tongue returns this model to the glory days of the famous Torin 4, plus has an added cushioned ride. The added cushioning makes any activity easier on the joints, but has a tiny price of a slightly stiffer step-off. The toe-box is comfortably wide and the inner sock has a slight snug feel. The fit is standard size, so no need to upsize. The Torin 7 is a winner, and the color styles are appealing.

Running ReviewI've been using Torins since model 4. Torin's 4 was the best so far. I retired them after 500 mile +. I keep using them for mowing the yard. Torin 5 had upper mesh issues and on the Torin 6 the cushion was gone around mile 300. Torin 7 feels like a different shoe. After 63 miles I returned them. Not sure if it is quality control issues. I can not lockdown the shoes properly. On top of that laces are kind of short. While running the cushion is not there. Very firm and stiff version of Torins. Very disappointed. Right now I'm out of a zero drop shoe. Using 5 & 6 MM drop shoes until I can find a Zero drop trainer that make me feel what the Torin 4 used to be.

Good walking shoeI bought this for my wife for walking since she liked the Escalante, but that wasn't enough cushioning for her. She loves these for her daily walks. And she likes the colorway of dark teal and pink. Personally, I only wear the Escalante for indoor gym workouts, since my Achilles can't handle a zero-drop shoe for running. I just may check out the new Altra with the 4mm drop, but I tend to be an 8mm or more person. I think the Torin are the best Altra model for road and casual wear. I would add that the first thing she did was replace the liners with Currex and now she says they're perfect.

Comfortable for Running/TravelingI highly recommend these comfortable shoes with a wide toe box and zero drop. My feet are evenly balanced and there is no extra pressure on the balls of my feet like in other shoes which tend to have a higher elevation in the back. Best Torin since 4Torin fans--it's back! The 4s were my favorite running shoes. Then the 5 came out with the tongue cutting everyone's feet, and the 6 wasn't much better. The 7 has a foot-friendly tongue now, and it's back to good times. The 7 differs from the 4 with the bounce, flexibility, and heel fit. EgoMax gives a little bounce that's missing from Quantic in a good way. EgoMax is still plenty soft for sink, but the Quantic never gave anything back; it was soft and that's it. The 7 is a little less flexible than the 4, so it doesn't quite have that "disappearing" fit, but isn't a deal breaker. Finally, the heel cup isn't as snug in the 7. This is resolved with the heel lock loop lacing. Fit is as good as ever, with a roomy toe box. Given the mesh materials on the 7, it has less volume for up and down wiggle room compared to the 4, but also isn't a deal-breaker. Ultimately, this is a big functional step forward from the 5 and 6 and should appease anyone missing the Torin 4. For what it's worth, my wife says the 7 is now her favorite running shoe ever, and boy did she miss the 4. Stock up!

Little bit of magic feelLove the feel of these. Right now they are my favorite shoe. Compared to the 6’s these offer just the right about of cushion for the every day trainer. The sole has a good amount of spring and a slight stiffness. This with the foam they use gives it a little bit of that magic. Also tried the Topo specter to reference and they don’t seem to have that special feel. Maybe the foam will last longer but out of the box impression on the Topo is no magic.I do appreciate the outsole on the heal as it give the shoe some form. Highly recommend

Instant Ankle PainI was happy when I looked at the pictures and noticed Altra had gotten rid of the horrible tongue that plagued the last couple of Torin models. I ordered a pair of the Torin 7 with high hopes. The sides of the new model are extremely stiff compared to previous models (and the Escalante). The sides of the shoe dig in hard to the underside of the bony part of your outer ankle (malleolus?). I noticed this walking in the shoes but figured I'd try a quick run to see if running changed the feel of the shoes. It did not. I turned around a few hundred feet from the house and changed back into my old Escalantes. I'm very grateful for the generous return policy.

Disappointed out of the BoxI bought mine directly from Altra, only because RW had been out of stock on my size for a while and my Torin 6 pairs were worn out. These shoes are nothing like the 6. They are heavy, stiff, and rigid, not to mention narrower in the 2E size than before especially in the mid-foot. I'm normally excited to pull a pair of Torins out of the box and go for a 10-mile run on a new pair, but these shoes had me wishing for my version 6 pairs back. They also went back to a thicker tongue, which is a negative in my book. I'm about done with Altra. I've already moved back to Hoka for trail running, so I think I'll do the same for road running.

They're back!I liked the Torin 4.5 Plush, but not so much the subsequent models, until the Torin 7. I like the fit, the cushion, and the feel of this model. I have been away from running for a while due to injuries, but recently restarted. These shoes are making it easy to get back in the swing. For some reason, the toe box of the 7 just fits better than the 6, the laces work, and the tongue is not cruel.

Love this update! The updates to this shoe is exactly what everybody has been needing in the Torin. The new midsole is soft but also responsive at the same time. You can feel the 2mm increase in stack in a good way. I can run so much further without foot pain in these shoes. The tongue is a dream compared to the last couple versions. The fit is so much better and is true to size. Also loving the slight rocker and stable feel of the new shoe geometry. This shoe is just so much fun to run in. Thanks Altra!

Amazing update!I have worn most of the iterations of the Torin, and this is by far the best one. I will even go as far as to say that this is my favorite running shoe ever. The upper fits me perfectly and the new tongue design is plenty cushioned without being too thick. The additional 2 mm of stack height really makes a difference and allows me to run further without pain. The shoe feels more stable than ever, and the slight rocker effect helps me move along nicely. The reformulated midsole foam is a perfect blend of cushioned but responsive, and feels lively underfoot. The shoe also fits true to size which was an issue for me in the past. I really hope Altra holds on to what they have here and only make tiny changes to this shoe as the years go on. This one is a winner, good job Altra.
