  • Rocky & Technical TrailsRocky & Technical Trails

These shoes are best used for hard, rugged trails such as shale, granite or sandstone where grip on smooth surfaces and underfoot protection are important.

  • Soft & Muddy TrailsSoft & Muddy Trails

Designed for use in muddy, soggy conditions, these shoes feature very aggressive outsoles that dig deep into soft ground for exceptional traction.

Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.

Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral Running Shoes

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stability Running Shoes

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

Ghost Max 2E - Great! My new favorite road shoe. I’ve had a lot of Ghost models in the past but never liked the big heel/toe drop. For the Max, they cut that in half which is awesome. The wide version is a perfect fit for me and they maintained the roomy toebox. These are good at any distance, not too firm, not too squishy.

Perfect ShoesI never leave reviews but these shoes are too good not to. I was looking for a pair of shoes for walking. These were in a list of top Brooks for walking. After the pros and cons were listed the final thought was that these Ghost Max 2’s were the best for walking. I bought them and they exceeded my expectations! I purchased the wides and it’s like walking on air! Seriously contemplating another pair for when these wear out!!!

A serious runner mustI purchased the Brooks running shoe for my son. He is 28 and has been a competitive distance runner since age 13. He switched to brooks in college as a result of some injuries. He has never looked back. They provide a stability that allows him to run with confidence . The cushion and comfort make training recovery easy. They fit exactly to size, no rubbing, chafing or blistering. They are a solid running that will help you go the distance. My so. Received the Ghost Max 2 shoe. This is his absolute favorite out of all Brooks running shoes products. Everything about the shoe including the look has improved. And that is the thing about Brooks, they never get stagnant, just continue to improve. The Ghost Max bad enhanced his performance and training. Great show!

Great shoeLove these! I have a narrow foot and am flat-footed. These are so comfortable. I was looking for something similar to the feel of my Hoka's. These are perfect! They have a not to firm and not too soft sole support. They also feel stable.

Shoes that workFor me the shoes ran a bit smaller than other shoes so I had to get a bigger size. Once I got the shoes they still felt a bit tight from the top but as I'm using them walking and running in them they feel better. For running this shoes are really amazing, you can feel the cushioning doing it's part.

Solid shoeGreat long distance shoe at slower paces. The rocker makes running easy. They are a little heavy and I would like to seem these about an ounce lighter similar to the first version. I liked the firmer feel as it was responsive for a heavy max cushion shoe. I did go up half a size compared to my typical Brooks size. The first version was softer but these are more stable.

Much better forefoot cushionHeavier while holding but don't really feel it While running. They feel much more cushioned under the metatarsals The 1 seemed to me to lose the cushion feel in the forefoot after 2 or 3 miles. Like most brands Please, please make colors other than black on black on large and wide sizes.

Not Like The OriginalI was very excited to order these after having enjoyed the original Ghost Max for a while now. I've also recently been dealing with a bad flare up of Plantar Fasciitis and the originals are one of the only pairs of shoes I can wear right now that don't bother me, so I was hopeful the 2's would be even better. Much to my dismay, they didn't live up to the hype for me. They felt huge, heavy, and not overly comfortable compared to my originals, which seem to kind of disappear on my feet. Having said that, they weren't horrible, and they might be perfect for someone else but not for me. The cushioning is definitely firmer than the originals and I'm sure more responsive with running, but I unfortunately wasn't able to get in much running in them due to my plantar fasciitis.
