Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.

Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral Running Shoes

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stability Running Shoes

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Highlights:

The HOKA Arahi 7 emerges as the next iteration of this popular stability shoe, boasting a balanced blend of support and lightweight cushioning. Specifically designed for overpronators seeking a resilient workhorse, this shoe provides a naturally supportive experience for casual jogs, daily walks, extended runs, and long days on your feet.

Keeping the trusted J-Frame midsole support system and impact dampening CMEVA foam, the Arahi 7 continues to give a secure and protective running experience that cradles the foot with every step. Meanwhile, HOKA's signature Early-Stage Meta-Rocker delivers a smooth ride and creates an easy forward motion through the gait cycle.

The Arahi 7 improves its midfoot lockdown with a revamped engineered flat knit upper and is fine-tuned with a plush tongue, midfoot ghillies, and a stretchy dual gusset beneath the lace line to help prevent the tongue from sliding out of place.

Finishing the shoe off is a Durabrasion rubber outsole that adapts to various road surfaces and is placed in high-wear zones for extra weight savings without costing durability. Both seasoned runners and those just starting will enjoy the excellent stability, comfort, and support offered by the HOKA Arahi 7.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Great walking shoeI am a 71 year old woman that walks my dog daily (average 3 miles per day). In past I wore Brooks (Ghost) shoes exclusively for years and loved them. At the prompting of a few friends I decided to try the Hoka brand. I was specifically interested in stability that the Ahrahi shoe was known for. I could tell a difference in my gait immediately! I was able to keep my shoes on all day without aching feet. These shoes are a game changer! After my first purchase I immediately bought a second pair in a different color. Then I bought a second pair of the black and white, which are my favorites. I couldn’t be happier with the comfort, stability, style and quality that my Hokas provide me each and every day!

Fix the toe rub I was gettingNeeded same size but wider running shoes of the same model and these did the trick. My right pinky toe callous is now going away and my toenails are growing back. :)

Good Walking ShoeI've had the Hoka Arahi line of shoes for a few years now and they always work well for me. I walk in them 4 days a week and wear them out and about and they last a long time. There doesn't seem to be as much cushion as in the past but I need the stability these provide. My feet are on the narrow side and these work well.

Great shoes, very comfortable.I bought the Hoka Arahi a few months ago specifically for walking, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. These shoes are incredibly comfortable, and since I started wearing them, the pain I used to experience in my feet and knees has completely disappeared. I would highly recommend the Arahi to anyone who spends a lot of time on their feet, whether you're a walker or a runner.

Good fit, very comfortableI’ve been wearing the Arahi shoe for several years. The Arahi 7 fits the same as the Arahi 7. Very comfortable for all day wear and walking.

These suck now.I switched to Hoka about 6 years ago. They were nice/decent then. Wide toe box, decent padding on the tongue. The Arahi 7 are something else. The stitching for the tongue hits right at phalangeal joint on my big toe (both feet) & is painful. Doesn't matter how you lace them. Shoe has also gotten VERY narrow in the toe/forefoot-I don't have wide feet but these are made for idk who's narrow, narrow feet. I compared them to an older pair I kept for kicking around & it's a visible difference in toe width for the B width shoe. They seem to be 'trendy' now so I imagine Hoka's trying to capitalize on that by getting every cent they can. I'm not going to order a wide as my last pair had issues with the outsole wearing away very quickly, too. Was hoping to use these as a holdover while I researched new brands. That's not an option with the lack of quality of these sneaks. These are absolutely going back & will be the last time I buy Hokas.

Comfy, wide, stable! These are great every day trainers. They are comfy, wide (got D width) and stable. They look great. They are light weight. This is my second pair and I’ll keep buying them as long as they don’t change them significantly. I’m an older runner (+50) with plantar fasciitis and these shoes work great for me.

Not for meUnfortunately, these shoes are not a good choice for me. Not enough cushion as I would have expected from Hoka. Hurt my feet more after a few runs. But if you are looking for a light weight shoe, these are definitely lighter than many other stability shoes out there.

Best version yet!Having owned many versions of the Arahi line, I can confidently say that I believe this to be the best version thus far. The fit is snug, but not too snug. This leads to a more nimble feeling, which I absolutely love, as some of the other versions have felt much more clunky on the foot. Solid training shoe overall with some decent support.

Fixed my overpronation painI have about 70 miles on these stability running shoes now with a long run of 10 miles to date. I had overpronation pain in my left foot arch area back in May due to my Cliftons losing their mid foot support even with Archmold max arch supports. I almost thought it was building too much running volume too fast but I was wise about that so I reduced my volume and did some research and remembered I had flat feet and need stability shoes for half marathon and longer training! I made the switch in July and these running shoes did the trick along with Powerstep Puse Maxx arch supports. I can now run with confidence as I peak in running volume in the next couple weeks leading to Ironman Santa Cruz, yay! :)

Worth buyingI bought my new shoes and wore them around the house for a week. Without my inserts and with. I couldn’t get used to them. I called the rep. He was super nice and told me that I could exchange for a wider D shoe and see if that is more comfortable. I am older and wanted a shoe to give me some support and relief of being on my feet for 74 years. My granddaughter has a pair and loves them and said I would to. The size 7D is a lot better. It has all the support I need without my extra Rx inserts . Now I know why I see young and old people wearing them. For running and sports to everyday use like me for support and stability. Thank you so much for all your help when I called the 800 number.

Comfy day to day shoesThe Arahi 7s are comfortable to wear all day. I can walk in them, exercise, and wear for errands. I do have to wear a wide width in these. I was hoping to get a neutral color like gray, but there are limited colors in wide widths. However, the vanilla cream looks nice in person and has been a good change. I appreciate the cushion and stability for my ankles.

Most painful running shoe I've ever wornI LOVED the Arahi 6 and ran in them for years. I recommended them to anyone who would listen. When I needed new running shoes, I had no choice but to try the new model Arahi 7. At first, I just assumed my feet were hurting so badly because they needed broken in. But after months of wearing them, I realized they just sucked. My feet would cramp in them a quarter mile into even a walk. Would strongly recommend against these shoes.
