  • Rocky & Technical TrailsRocky & Technical Trails

  • Soft & Muddy TrailsSoft & Muddy Trails

Designed for use in muddy, soggy conditions, these shoes feature very aggressive outsoles that dig deep into soft ground for exceptional traction.

Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.

Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral Running Shoes

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stability Running Shoes

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

The ‘Goat is back for round 6, and the HOKA Speedgoat 6 aims to be THE trail running shoe for everyone and any trail. It’s the quintessential HOKA experience of high levels of cushioning and confidence-inspiring traction and has the versatility to meet the needs of trail runners, hikers, and ultramarathon athletes.

Bearing the nickname of world-renowned ultrarunner Karl Meltzer, this perennial bestseller continues the proud legacy of its family line. The Speedgoat has always bundled a thick layer of foam and stellar outsole grip in a surprisingly lightweight package, and that formula has now been tweaked to be even more capable. So what’s new? The refined CMEVA midsole foam compound is tuned to give an even more nimble feel, while the updated internal chassis hugs your foot securely for added stability on rough terrain.

Linking you to the earth, the outsole features a revised lug orientation inspired by... a goat’s hoof, of course! Rest assured that the outsole retains its superb Vibram Megagrip rubber with Traction Lug technology, but the lug shape has been optimized with micro-serrations to increase surface area, traction, and stability. Matching the shoe connection to the ground, the new durable woven mesh upper secures the runner into the shoe while sporting a faster drying and lighter weight construction. A plusher lay-flat dual-gusseted tongue and heel loop pull are finishing touches that add to the shoe's refinement and all day comfort.

Altogether, the Speedgoat 6 comes in slightly lighter weight than version 5 and is beyond ready to be your trusted, highly cushioned, confidence-inducing companion for all your daily miles and adventures.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Better than the 5Definitely an upgrade from the 5. The ride is great but the lockdown still needs improvement. The tongue is too short making the extra lace eyelet useless. For my foot shape the extra eyelet is absolutely necessary for lockdown on technical terrain. Hopefully they fix this on the next version.

Midsole is too hardI've been wearing Speedgoats since version 3. I can not wear this new version because the midsole is too hard and not flexible. I've tried different orthotics and nothing works from my feet feeling pain. I can't even hike 3 miles before my feet start to ache. I love the new uppers, finally Hoka has designed a shoe for wide feet. Now, fix the midsoles, go back to 4mm heel to toe drop, keep the uppers and it would be perfect.

I appreciate the wide shoe optionI wear the speedboat because it fits! The 6 has excellent grip on wet, steep, technical terrain. I appreciate the higher stack height and the slightly higher drop from heel to toe on the new version. The 6 fits differently than the 5, so don't assume that you can re-order the same size.

HoKa TrailLove Hoka but these speed goat 6 seem a little bulky and heavy compared to previous Hoka trail shoes. I still like them and would recommend to others, it's just takes alittle time to get use to the shoe.

Running Warehouse was my answer, I purchased the Hoka speedgoat 6 , took them for a test run on the most gnarly trails I know of(my favorite) running thru wet ravines, wet rocks, and logs, and NEVER slipped once ! I highly recommend the speedgoat 6 as it has to be the most reliable shoe for trail running I have ever owned!! Thank you Running Warehouse and Hoka for this “GREAT EXPERIENCE,”!

Trail Running Shoe For Fitness EnthusiastsThe HOKA Speedgoat 5 and Speedgoat 6 are my go-to shoes when I hit the trails and prairie path systems here in Illinois. The great fit and running comfort are the reasons I continually buy the Speedgoat shoe.

The G.O.A.T. of the goatsBest version yet. Don't understand all the complaints. If you want mush for midsole, buy the Mafate Speed 4 or Zoom X Nikes. If you're a serious trail runner or mountaineer, and want a precise, nimble fit with excellent lockdown and traction, these are for you. More responsive than prior models and the platform is narrower. Toe box more forgiving. I had switched to Altras for 2 years because I got sick of Hokas narrow toe boxes but Altras just aint the same and the tox box of these is excellent. If you find these too firm, you're likely not running on terrain that justifies buying these because if you did, you'd find these plenty cush or you have some dainty, sensitive feet. Switching back to Hokas for good!

Improved, but needs bigger toeboxI've used many pairs of Speedgoats since they were introduced. This iteration is the best yet. The new upper really is less stretchy and the midfoot really is more snug ( at first, almost too snug). I'd really like to see the toebox made wider, because my big toe still rubs on long downhills. Because of that, only 4 stars.
