Overview
The Maurten GEL 100 CAF 100 brings a boost of caffeine to its high-performing energy gel. Rather than adding unwanted flavors or acids to hide the bitterness of caffeine, Maurten uses their unique hydrogel technology to offer a unique profile with low sweetness and low bitterness.
Once digested, the acidity of your stomach transforms the mix into a hydrogel which encapsulates a high amount of carbs and caffeine, before transporting them to be effectively absorbed within your intestines resulting in hydration and energy. With only 7 simple and natural ingredients, the flavor is neutral and GI distress is avoided since the gel is not broken down in your stomach. This gel should be consumed before, during, or after your runs.

Previous Feedback
Taste: 5 out of 5. I personally have issues with overly sweet gels when running sustained (2+ hour) efforts and Maurten is fairly bland, which is a good thing for me. There is a VERY faint sweet coffee flavor but for the most part, these are tasteless.
Packaging: 2 out of 5. For a gel that is so "over-engineered", it is odd how bad the packaging is. These are REALLY bulky and filled with a lot of extra air. My only guess is that this keeps the product from sticking to the sides and allows you to get it all on the run? Unfortunately, it is REALLY tough to get these to fit into the gel loops on my running belt and they take up a lot of room if I put them in the pouch. I didn't have any of the issues that Jesse noted.
Comments: Maurten Gels are interesting in that they have a consistency more like Jello than a typical gel. The flavor (which it does have) is subtle and appealing. I think the nutritional performance is at least on par with GU brand but I don't have major gut issues and didn't notice anything special or bad either. The one thing I don't like is the packaging. I believe the wrapper to be aluminum or some metallic type material that affects how I consume the product. Some may not have any issue but it bothers me a bit and kind of hurts my teeth. Overall I'd recommend and try it to experience Maurten on your own. I bought 6 of them and went for a long run to see how it went and I liked the taste, texture, and consistency but didn't like the packaging. Very cool aesthetic with the packaging and labeling.
