  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

Stability Level

  • Neutral Running Shoes

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stability Running Shoes

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Killer RacerThey are exceptional race-ready trail runners. They’re impressively light, making them ideal for speed and agility on technical terrain. Despite their minimal feel, the cushioning is surprisingly effective enough to stay comfortable even during long efforts. The build quality stands out, with durability that has held up well across several hundred miles, showing only moderate signs of wear. They feel secure, responsive, and fast underfoot. The only drawback I encountered was the sizing; they run small and required going up a full size for a proper fit. Aside from that, these are among the best lightweight trail shoes I’ve used—perfect for racing or fast training days when every ounce matters.

A shoe that is on another levelI can say that the work they did on this shoe is truly noticeable. It's excellent in terms of comfort, considering the pursuit of fast paces. I would really recommend it up to a distance of 50K. Beyond that, I don't think the cushioning is as good. I understand that Kilian ran the 100M at the UTMB, but let's agree that the shoes he uses are special and probably not the same ones that come out on the market. In conclusion, highly recommended, but for short ultras.

Grippy and light shoe for fun trail runsAs a follow-up to a previous review, highly recommend going true to size (TTS). Going down a 1/2 size at first felt very glove-like/perfect. Yet on trails, toe splay would be impeded by jamming against the forefoot's protective walled contruction. After ~50 miles, can't ask for anything more from these shoes. Fast, light, grippy and durable. No insole, minimal drop w/ the just the right amount of protection and energy return. Expecting these NNormals to hold up over 800+ miles, which helps justify the high price point.

Durable, fast ShoeGreat trail shoe! I’ve used it for both training and racing up to 50k. It’s lightweight but still very grippy. I like to actually feel the ground below me as I run, so this shoes is great for that. It does run long and narrow, so I would be aware of that.

Excellent, Durable Trail ShoeExcellent shoe! It's light and very durable. I've stumbled over a few rocks and had branches snag the sides but the shoe had no damage. It preformed well on fire roads and technical trails. I really like the low stack hieght and it has just enough cushioning. It does take a few runs to break in, but they are very comfortable. I have slightly wide feet but ordered my normal running shoe size and they fit perfectly.

They don't work for low-volume feetIf you have a wide foot, these may be good shoes for you. They are well-made, comfortable, and have decent grip. But they provide little support from the shoe materials, so if your feet aren't big enough, you're going to wobble on them. I wanted to use these shoes for my upcoming 100 miler. I wanted to love them. I wore them around the house for days, and yes, they felt like they would be comfortable for 100 miles. But the big test run, the Cat's Tail Trail marathon, was the test that showed me that they wouldn't work for me. I twisted my left ankle in the first 5 miles. Not too bad, so I just carried on and made a note to try and tighten the shoes later as they seemed to give no support at all, and yet also have this serious amount of foam under them. I couldn't get them tight enough though to stop me twisting my ankle more seriously twice more, and I ended up hobbling to the finish. Compared to my Salomon Pulsar 2s, they were so unstable, and I'm going with those for my 100. I think it's just a case of them not working for my low-volume left foot. I ordered them a half size down, and based the sizing on NNormal's own sizing guide (my right foot is bigger than the left one). A full size down would not have worked for my right foot.

Light and Quick, Traction is TopTraction (wet and dry) is the best I've ever experienced in a trail runner. If running form is not efficient or are a pronator (like me), this NNormal shoe is on the minimalistic end (esp mid/forefoot strikers). Ground feel is apparent and appreciated. Heel protection is more than adequate with subtle springy-ness when standing or walking in the shoes. The Kjerag is light and fast. I use them for up to a 10k though it's clearly a shoe that can go farther if one's running mechanics are sound. Was not able to test shoe's water drainage capabilities. On sizing, I wear 11.5 (ex Adidas Terrex, Brooks Catamount, Salomon Genesis). Based on reviews, I went down a half size to 11's in the NNormal. At first everything seemed ok after four trail runs of 4-6 miles each in 50-60 degree days. Now today, being warmer and humid, my toes are touching the top of both shoes. There is also a feeling of a slight protrusion in the sole under the right midfoot when pressing down. I am thinking that by going down a half size (for me at least), I was placing adverse stress on the natural design of the shoe. I have re-ordered the shoe in my normal 11.5 sizing. Can't see any reason why this shoe wouldn't last 700+ miles. Built very well and lots of protection.

Runs small, not bigOverall great shoe, feels light and versatile. It said it ran big, so I ordered half a size down (9.5) and in my opinion it runs small, I am a 10 and I should have ordered a 10.5.

Unique and worth a try1/2 size down. Fits like a glove. Minimal yet plush enough, very good grip. A really great feeling shoe that can get as rowdy as you want. Would be a disservice to treat it as a road to trail shoe. Get this bad boy some rough terrain.

Nimble, technical terrain specialistI have been running in minimalist shoes (i.e. 4mm drop or less) for about a decade, and focus on racing 50km single day events, as well as up to 7-day stage races (40-50km/day) in the Alps in them. My go-to shoe for many years has been the Salomon S/lab Sense 7's and, after they were discontinued, I have been on the lookout for a suitable replacement. I am not a fan of the 'in-fashion' built in gator, as I tend to run without socks, and find them abrasive. The Kjerag is the closest I have come to finding and it is a brilliant shoe: -FIT: I wear a 12US men's in the S/labs and am an 11US in the Kjerag. I tried 11.5 but it is too roomy in the toe. 11 is right on the edge of being too small but I have run up to 4hrs in them and my feet have done fine. The midfoot is quite narrow but locks the heel in-place well. The forefoot is roomier than many Salomon shoes and allows for a full foot splay. -FEEL: These shoes have excellent ground feel and, despite the 5mm drop, my foot strike is incredibly precise and centered just behind the forefoot. This leads to a feeling of fluid, fast turnover, in what is a very lightweight shoe. As one review I read suggests, the rubber on the sole actually feels like it takes some miles to 'warm up' but after breaking in for 50 miles, the shoe moves easily with my foot. -STABILITY: Overall I think that these shoes are quite stable, though the one design change I would make is swapping the flat laces on the newer colors with a quick-lace system. Something about the current setup requires a very specific tension when lacing to lock the foot in and I have had to re-tie the shoe more tightly at some point in each run to maintain lateral stability. That said, I haven't noted significant forward and backward movement of the foot on steep ups/downs. -TRACTION: The first two days I ran in these shoes were in the White Mtns of New Hampshire. The area had been doused in rain, is incredibly steep, rocky, and slippery. These shoes did not have a single moment of lost traction. I literally couldn't believe how grippy they are on rock. After 50 miles the sole looks just like it did when it came out of the box. -UPPER: The matrix upper on the Kjerag drains water quickly and does not retain moisture! Despite being in and out of mud bogs and puddles, the shoe just didn't soak up water. Additionally, the matrix material seems bullet-proof, having been scraped over rocks and not showing any wear. The suede/leather tongue is thin but protective, soft, and (important for those who don't wear socks) smells amazing. No stinky shoes! Finally, the heel cup is lined with a moderately absorbent fabric but I would take this any day because it is so gentle on the Achilles and skin in that area. -OVERALL: This is an amazing 'everyday' shoe for those that run in places that are exceedingly rocky and require traction on slippery rock. They are durable, well built, stable, and have a great foot wrap. They will be my go-to shoe for runs 3hrs or less, particularly if you want to move quickly or dynamically over terrain. I think I would want a 1/4 size larger if going for longer, slower runs of 4+ hours, but that is just because I am in-between sizes. For such a minimal shoe, the foam is dense enough for comfort without sacrificing ground feel. This would be an excellent racing shoe for events up to 50km.

Great Shoe! These are great shoes, perfect for anything in the woods, on trail, or even dirt. Extremely durable, great grip from the Vibram sole, and seem to work in really any condition, including wet and rainy. They are snug so you don't have a lot of wiggle room while wearing them, but the snug-ness allows for maximum control over your steps-- you feel very "grounded". Would definitely recommend this shoe to any trail runner, especially those who like to go fast, feel supported, and go long distances!

DurableVery well built shoe! Laces work nice, toe protection is first class, very light, durable, etc. Downsizing advice worked for me, normally 9.5 in U.S., 9.0 fits me well. Worth every penny. Would love to see the same shoe come out in zero drop!

Feels quick, definitely narrow. After about 100 miles on these shoes and I’ve really enjoyed them. Lightweight and simple, but a narrower fit than most shoes I’ve run in, even after going up half a size from my normal running shoe size. They’ve been great for more technical terrain but I will probably stick with a wider shoes for any ultra distances.

Stoked. Perfect for meI’m picky like most runners. It’s hard for me to find a shoe that has a good lock down, wide enough toe without it being too loading and slopping, and basically have a shoe that i forget about once I’m in the groove. My friend told me about Nnormals and I was skeptical as usual that it would be too tight and not fit right. I got lucky and love this shoe. Minimal yet super grippy. i have a feeling this shoe will last a long time. Stoked!!

NNORMAL KI was hoping that I could use a trail shoe to fill the gap the marketplace has left as it relates to lower stack shoes. Unfortunately these did not work for me. Not sure if my body has become so accustomed to the extra bounce/response of the higher stack shoes in the marketplace but something was missing. Probably not fair assessment as this shoe is for trail runners and that is not the reason I gave it a try.

Worth itA fun fast shoe that promotes treading lightly. I find them a little more work to get on, but the return is a fabulous fit and lock down on my fairly low volume feet. I experienced some pinky rub on the first couple outings, but after working the toe box area to soften it up – all good. Sizing: I’m a 12.5 in most Nike, Adidas, Saucony, 12 in Hoka – tried the Kjerag in both a 12 (too long) and a 11.5. 11.5 was a clear keeper. These are agile and light with adequate protection for my local PNW trails. If you hit some sharp objects while running heavy, you’ll feel it. No issues with grip, wet or dry. I’m not doing ultras at the moment - longest I’ve done in these is 15 mi. No regrets and always look forward to slipping them on. 125+ miles so far - road-to-trail and still look like new.

incredible foami think a lot of trail shoes are either overly cushioned catering to ultramarathoners and can feel unstable in technical terrain or too firm for longer outings. the kjerag has a lot of hype but i feel like it lives up to some of the expectations with a caveat. the durability on my first pair was around 400 miles before they started to lose some of the resiliency in the foam. In all, i ran just under 500 miles before they were clearly done. the fit of the upper improved shortly after purchase once broken in and feel of these shoes are just responsive with a nice balance of cushion and flexibility. i could run in these multiple days in a row without feeling dead. it was nice to wake up some lower leg muscles as well. i used these on dry california trails, loamy trails in oregon and also in the alps looping mont blanc in 5 days and they handled all of it. i think these are great for someone like me up to 50k of racing, but it would be a stretch to expect much more. I'm 5'9 and 150 lbs. i'm not sure there is 600 miles of running in these shoes for someone like me, but kudos to anyone who can get that. worth the price.

Great ShoesI've gotten 700+ miles out of my first pair on pretty rugged trails, which is significantly more than I'd typically get out of trail shoes. I've worn them for everything from racing ultramarathons to city runs and daily trail training. Really a fantastically versatile shoe, that's durable as well.

Firm Shoe for Easy Cruise or UptempoI bought these to use in a trail race along a sandy rail trail. They were much better on that surface than normal road trainers running at about 6-6.5min/mile for over an hour. I'm not sure I'd want to run much faster than that in these but I'll probably try it at some point. Since then I've also done some easy running and jogging in them and they have felt great. They look narrower than they feel for me and the tread is fantastic on dry trail and rocks. I sized down by 1/2 size to maintain about a thumb's width at the end of the shoe.

Exceptional performance for mid ultrasI've put over 350 miles on it and it still feels the best shoes I've had so far. Grippy on rocky terrain, as stable on rooty trails as Altra Lone Peak, light for fast running on mild terrain, these shoes would have been ideal if I hadn't developed huge blisters at mile 70 on the outer side of the heel and on both feet, on the very rocky and unstable terrain of Section J (Pacific Crest Trail). The infamous last 15 miles (Snoqualmie Pass end) consist of sharp large scree that rocks the heel sideways extending and compressing the callus until it detaches from the inner skin layer and then blisters form. Not sure if the issue is with the shoes allowing for too much rocking, but I am positive other, stiffer shoes felt more forgiving. I now would hesitate to run a technical 100 miler on my Kjerags.

Very solid first versionThese are excellent trail shoes especially considering they are the first generation of Nnormal’s offering. So far I have 300 miles on them (technical rocky terrain, 16m longest run) and they are wearing very lightly. The outsole shows minimal wear, the upper is dirty but without fraying and the midsole is holding its loft better than any other foam I’ve run on. The fit is generous in the forefoot (I wear topos typically and have a wide foot) and snug in the heal and mid foot which works really well for me. Hold down is great on steep downhills and interestingly enhanced by the lack of insole, the foot really sticks to the exposed midsole foam. The foam is completely different than the old Sense shoes, much more forgiving and more of it. Overall very surprised by just how good they are, happy to pay more for a product that appears to last longer than most and outperforms expectations.
