Customer Reviews
My absolute favorite!I used to be a Brooks and ASICS girl and then switched to New Balance a few years ago. These by far have been my favorite! I have had four pair and will continue to purchase! I love how light and responsive they are! They do run short in the toe box though so size up another half size from what you normally wear.

NB ruined this shoe (for me)The v3 Rebel was, in my opinion, the best shoe ever made. Then this version came along with a larger volume upper in a different type of mesh and completely changed the fit. The shoe that once fit my foot like a glove now felt loose in the upper but tight in the sole. I imagine this fit might be better for people with larger volume feet than myself (which is probably most people), but unfortunately, if you have relatively narrow, low volume feet, this shoe is probably not going to do it for you.
Best Daily Trainer YetAs a very novice runner (15-20mi/wk), and someone in the past who was told I need stability shoes, I have been very happy with the Rebels. For my first few runs (50mi so far, between track, road, and treadmill), I could not be happier. The wide base feels plenty stable. I have plenty of room for my toes to breathe in the toe box, and the foam feels just perfect for me (180lbs, midfoot/heel strike). These have quickly become my favorite daily trainer yet - ASICS Gel-Kayano, Saucony Tempus, or even New Balance SuperComp Trainer to name a few recents. Good for the base miles or even when I want to have some fun and push a little tempo. Absolutely love these.

Great shoeI normally wear the Hoka Clifton but have noticed this shoe so I thought I would try it out. I was not disappointed. The shoe is light and comfortable. It also is responsive giving an edge out on temp runs giving me a little spring in my work outs.

Daily TrainerSuper breathable with great space in the toe box. The cushion is also top notch!

Excellent All Round ShoeThis is the second pair of Rebel v4’s that I’ve owned. They are good for both easy and tempo runs - although for easy runs, it does require effort to keep slow as these give a good bounce.
I’ve recently tried the NB supercomp trainer, but found these far better and cheaper! Will definitely buy again

Solid In BetweenPretty solid shoe. A little bit harder to get going in, but great for a lot of general building work (hills, farltleks, non-specific tempo, etc.) If you get into longer/more specific efforts, would go for something with more support and a plate.

Good Do-it-all Shoe but wears out too fastThese are good if you need a cheap and quick in-between shoe for track season that can fill a variety of needs, but don't expect them to last very long. They're good for recovery, moderate, and even tempo paces, but mine wore out after like 190 miles.

On my 4th pairLike a lot of runners, I loved the Rebel V2, but couldn't wear the V2 (toe box too narrow). I had high hopes for the V4 and the shoe has delivered. It is cushy when you need it to be (I ran 21 miles in the shoe recently) and fast when you need it. It's like a plated shoe, but without the plate. I really enjoy this shoe and think it's a bit of a unicorn. I hope the V5 is great too.

Good Lightweight TrainerNice up tempo shoe that is light on the feet. Foam has a good bit of bounce on it. Only negative is the outsole - can tell it will not hold up for higher mileage like an NB fresh foam 860
Best daily trainerCan be used for any run, long or short. Well cushioned yet responsive, my favorite shoe yet!
Soft comfortable shoeUsing this shoe for marathon training. Light and great cushion but wears out really fast.
Amazing show for I,T, & R daysfeel poppy and responsive with some nice cushion. only thing i do not like is the heel cup seems different on these and cause blistering on my heel even through long sock, need to wear blister bandaids on my heels for these shoes and i do not in any other new balance/hoka
Awesome shoe- but too wideQuite possibly the 2024 shoe of the year. Light as a feather for a trainer, great heel-toe transition and super snappy. The only negatives. They ran a tad short and I’m perplexed why NB would make the upper so darn wide for a performance trainer. Especially when they make it in a wide. NB, please dial in that upper.
Great ShoesFeels very light and a lot of toe space!
Switched from HokaI’ve been running in Hoka for many years. I did not like the latest changes made to the Rincon and decided give the NB Rebel v4 a try. I really like the minimal upper and the cushioned ride is perfect for me. And they only way 7.5 oz. I run mostly on crushed (and some roads). I have a little over 200 miles on them and they are holding up remarkably well. I’ve already ordered another pair.

very good shoeMy favorite shoe in quite a while. It is fast, even for an old fart like me (65). You can run slower in it, but it's built for faster running. I'll use it twice a week or so.

Probably my 2nd-favorite all-trick poniesI was a huge fan of the Hoka Mach 4 and 5. Then the poorly-redesigned Mach 6 came out, which put me back on the market for a good any-purpose shoe. I’d had a good experience with the rebel v3s, so I gave these a shot.
I’ve spent 50+miles in these current Rebels so far, and like them almost as much as I liked the Mach 5s. They have just as much energy return, maybe even more. But my legs felt the impact of a half marathon quite a bit in these rebels. I had run two marathons in the Mach 5s with no aches, but after just a half marathon in the rebels I had some pain in my knee for the following 48hrs or so. No lasting injury, but it was nagging enough that I would not trust the rebels to take me through a full marathon.
I would buy these again and probably will. But I will need another pair of shoes for longer runs.

Great shoe just not for meIt super comfortable, fast, looks great under foot,,,, but made for someone who’s a heel striker. I run on my forefoot.

New To MeThese are a new to me shoe - I've run in 1080, 880s and SuperComp Trainers. And I am really enjoying the Rebel!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
OverratedThe New Balance Rebel V4 is truly overrated. Despite the buzz about their speed and responsiveness, I found the cushioning absolutely dead and flat, providing no comfort or support during runs. Adding insult to injury, these shoes are excessively wide for average feet, making them feel sloppy and unstable. All in all, these shoes are a huge disappointment and definitely not worth the hype or the price.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Excellent shoesGood fitment. Good balance between cushion and firmness.

You should tryNew Balance keeps improving. This is my second NB. The show is comfortable, roomy, very responsive. I think it’s important to accommodate the heel properly, and this shoes delivers it. The tongue is thin but more than enough.

LOVE IT!!After years of running in a low profile shoes, this was my first foray into something with a bit of stack height. I tried a carbon plated shoe a couple years ago, but it just didn't work. The Rebel was recommended to me by a mate on the East coast.
Well, I LOVE this shoe and am looking forward to re-upping my miles as well as getting back to some racing this year. Thanks Running Warehouse (and New Balance)

Awesome shoeThe new balance fuel cell is an amazing shoe with just the right cushion

Great daily trainerThese shoes have lasted me over 250 miles so far and they still feel the same as the day I got them. They can do virtually any pace, I’ve done anything from half marathons to strides min these shoes and I have no complaints if you’re looking for the best daily trainer it’s these.

So Soft Under FootI have a lot of foot problems. I can barely walk barefoot. I always wear shoes. I even have an indoor only pair of shoes so I will not get the floor or carpet dirty. I once went to a podiatrist and he took an x-ray of my feet. He came back to me and gave me a list of different issues I had with my feet. Then asked if he could take another x-ray of my feet to use in his medical class he was teaching showing different medical conditions of the feet. Basically, he was unable to help me. I needed to find shoes that would allow me to move more freely. Over many years and many types of shoes, I found New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4 to work the best allowing me to run trails, play tennis and pickleball with only a little pain. Not the best overall support, but great cushioning. That is a big upgrade for me.

NB Fuelcell Rebel v4Me: 70yo, M. Not currently running but able to get in 2-3 minute running segments while on walking/hiking workouts. 30 year history of running, coaching and shoe and book reviews. Raced at a national level until early 60s.
Rebel v4: Just an outstanding shoe for everyday running and training including tempo days. Fit is excellent with a wide toe box which should fit everyone except perhaps those with very wide or thin feet. Not sure if they come in widths. Handsome shoe which has excellent and responsive padding(without being oversized), excellent toe off and an ease to its providing pace. Great overall shoe for every tempo but the most intense track days. Could even be used for road racing up to 10K/Half Marathon depending on runners speed or ability to afford carbon plated shoes. While not providing the impact for the fastest runners I feel the pleasant experience on the feet would be advantageous for most runners in a racing setting. The Rebel 4 would be a great addition to all runner's shoe stable. Definitely could be one's favorite base shoe.

Good for tempo / fast running shoesGood cushion but not enough for middle distance between 15K or 21K. A little width for narrow feet. The upper feels great (breathable), the shoes looks amazing but you need a daily trainer for long and recovery runs. This shoes with more cushion will be perfect for more distances. Not yet tried the sole in wet or rain conditions.

BalancedLightest weight shoe on the market !
Balance no wobble
Nothing pretentious just a great shoe with unmatched comfort
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Excellent…But….Bravo NB, what a beautiful super lightweight trainer. Not too soft or too firm. NB really nailed the sweet spot. The only gripe I have is the width. There’s no reason a performance shoe like this needs to be this wide, especially when there is a wide version option. Lockdown was a bit problematic because of the roomy toe box. Hopefully NB can dial in the upper on V5.

Great feelToe box is nice and roomy, and the shoe feels very light yet very stable.

Foot SlipsI love the look of this shoe, but it runs wide—even for my wide feet! I have to tie them really tight, which causes the upper material to bunch up, and the thin material can get uncomfortable. I primarily use these for short runs, walks, and weightlifting. They perform better as a training shoe than a dedicated running shoe.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Good upgrades and improvements from Rebel v3This version is much better than the Rebel 3 (which I loved!). Much wider toe box and better upper/breathable material. Still lightweight but not as “mushy” as the last version. Hoping for longer lasting with the improved sole material. I have about 150 miles on them to date and still in like new condition.

Fuel cellBest shoe ever. Comfortable. Light.

Happy with RebelThis is the first pair of v4s I have purchased. I’m a road runner ~25 miles/week. They are soft and bouncy. I have very high arches and these feel nice. I have had several pairs of the other Rebel Versions. I switched to a different NB and ultimately came back to the Rebel. The v4 does run smaller/shorter. I ordered a half size up from the other versions.

Great all around shoeThis shoe is great for any workout slow pace fast pace it doesn't matter this shoe will get it done for you. The comfort from it is amazing as well feel like a cloud on my foot.

Good versatilityWas looking for a shoe to carry the weekly mileage. Lightweight enough to get you through the gears on faster runs and also responds well to longer runs. Having a wider/flatter foot this shoe accommodated me well.

It is what we thought it’d beGreat shoe for up tempo training

Best daily trainer for meI prefer a bit more stable and lighter daily trainer and this shoe is perfect for that! It still has plenty of cushion I can do multiple types of runs (slower, tempo, ect..). I also think it is one of the best looking shoes on the market right now. For longer recovery runs I still prefer a little more cushion such as the gel nimbus 26, but again, this an awesome daily trainer! Highly recommend trying!

Great shoeLove the fit from toe box to heel, very comfortable on my weekly runs. Perfect for my 72 year old legs. A friend loved my shoes, and she just ordered a pair for herself.

Great productShoe is wonderful, fast and responsive despite looking pretty bulky. The carbon plate is great and the foam really makes your legs feel better the next day.
Also, the shipping was fast and I got the right size!

Light and SpringyI've been a fan of the Rebel before. I had two pair of the Rebel 2 and was interested in ordering the Rebel 4 when it came out. It is light weight and springy - good for a daily run and/or some speed work. It runs a little bit small. I usually wear 8.5 but had to order a size 9 in order to have enough toe room. If I had one wish it would be for laces a bit longer.

A New Version That Doesn't DisappointI've had a pair of Rebel V3's in my rotation for a few months. They're light and cushy with a very comfy top. It amazes me that manufacturers so often update a shoe and it ends up being worse. Not the V4's, though! The new ones have quite a different feel: not quite as cushy, so a little more responsive while still offering ample shock absorbing. The thing that I am most happy about is that the toebox is still nice and roomy. Like, who wants less room for their toes? Not me :)

Trainers for HSI enjoy running long distances with these sneakers. They’re lightweight and have good traction. I have a slimmer foot and this shoe feels just right for me.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Wide Toe Box and responsivePretty comfortable shoes, I got a couple large miles on them. They aren't responsive and light on my feet. They do rub the side of my foot oddly, it doesn't hurt, but I notice how the material is rubbing on my foot. They are good long distance shoes, not really so much for speed work

The Ultimate Running Show for EverythingI recently put the New Balance Rebel to the ultimate test during the 2024 Berlin marathon, and I could not have been more impressed. What stands out the most is how reliable these shoes are, no matter the pace or distance. Whether I am running slow or fast, long or short runs, this is the only shoe that fits secure and adaptable. Confort is key, and despite dealing with two injuries-one affecting my plantar fascia, these shoes provided incredible support. Even during the grueling marathon, I felt protected from start to finish. The cushioning strikes the perfect balance soft enough to absorb impact but responsive enough to keep my constant speed strides even when the legs where tires. One unexpected bonus, I wore them on my nine hours flight and they turned out to be incredibly comfortable for the entire trip. This shoe delivers safety, comfort, versatility and even travel-friendly convenience. I love them and will not wear anything else.

Great shoesThe rebels v4 are an all around trainer good for long runs and uptempo runs. I like that they are soft on the feet but don’t totally decompress on when hitting the ground. They don’t have much propulsion which was what i was looking for
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
FuelCell Rebelv4Excellent shoes, the upper and its material breathe and adapt really well. Additionally, there is not the same problem with heel rubbing that the SC Elite v4 did have.

Incredibly impressedI do a lot of treadmill running and these are the perfect treadmill (and outdoor) shoe. Perfectly cushioned and soft daily trainer. Normally a 7.5 in running shoes but had to size up to an 8.

Best training show I have ever hadExtremely light and comfortable. I have wide feet, and the wide version fits great. Shock absorption is top notch. They perform at the level of super shoes. Excellent for intervals as well as long runs or easy runs.

New Balance Fuel Cell rebelI have owned multiple iterations of this shoe since they started making them! The previous version was my favorite. I do like the added cushion with this model but there is a seam right over the toe box that rubs my big toe really bad. I am limited to using them for short runs and speed work as I did an 18 mile and the running caused really bad blistering and pain in my big toe.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Not soft which was nice.I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got these shoes but after using them for two weeks I like them. I did a half marathon sat weekend in them and my legs felt great afterwards. They look like they may be soft and squishy however they aren’t. They are fairly responsive. I typically use brooks with their guidance but these in neutral feel good so far.

My favorite trainersI might be biased. I started wearing New Balance in 1980. I did wear testing for them from 2000-2014. However, I've worn every brand on the market, and numerous styles and models, as you can imagine in 52 years of running. My current favorite is the Fuel Cell Rebel V4. I also felt the Fuel Cell Rebel V2 and V3 were excellent shoes. The foam in the V4 is denser in my opinion, and not as soft, however the platform seems to be more stable and the slightly taller stack height cushions the ride to achieve longer runs, and hopefully a longer life in the rotation. There is more room in the width of the forefoot to accommodate wider feet without going to the EE width, however, you may want to scale up a half size as they do seem a tad short. I chose to stay in my normal size and keep a snugger fit, and I've had no issues with the toes jamming in the end of the shoe. They also loosened the fit of the sewn-in tongue a bit to accommodate a taller instep or higher arch, which I have. I previously had to cut the sides of the tongue in the V3 to reduce irritation on the metatarsal tendons. The sole is also wearing better than prior versions. I've got two pair in my rotation, a couple of hundred miles on each, and really no signs of sole wear yet.

Quality ShoeBought these as the team shoe for my XC team this year in multiple colors. The shoes have held up really well, we have gone anywhere from 25-50 miles during a given week. We run a mix of easy, tempo, and speed work and a majority of the kids feel comfortable using these for all workout types. I got a pair for myself before I ordered for the kids because I don't want to get them anything I wouldn't run in myself and I can say I have enjoyed using them mostly for easy runs. They run true to size and are not overly roomy in the midfoot or toe box.

Solid uptempo shoeThis iteration of a rebel is a solid shoe, albeit overhyped by review websites. It’s great for runs where you might have some uptempo stretches, but don’t want to go with your race day shoe— think progression runs or long runs with a workout in them. However compared to an actual super shoe, they’re quite flat feeling and you definitely have to effort a bit more below 6:00.
The cushioning and weight are in that light daily trainer sweet spot and you definitely can use this as your daily driver if you don’t like a bulky shoe.

best shoes if your feet is wide and low archThis are the best shoes for tempo runs if you have wide feet .
I absolutely luv it .
My combo is NB Vongo for slow pace , NB Rebel for tempo pace and NB Elite for race day !
I luv them all !

Love the color, prefer the V3This shoe runs smaller than the V3. The collar feels stiff and rubs the back of ankles a bit. Out of the box, this shoe didn’t feel as bouncy or responsive as the V3s. The upper is super breathable and I love the color!

Those are a GOOD pairGreat shoes, super light and roomy toe box but don’t after tho the size.
I am using them for long runs and more uptempo runs. I got 100 miles on it and they’re getting better, think than mod foam is adapting to my feet.
Also the have a good heel adjustment that I specially like. Very well balanced cushion but do not expect super bouncy and reactive shoes.
I like the a lot. Super happy. And in blue, are BEAUTIFUL

Funnest shoe everlong time neutral high cushion trainer user, having been through countless pairs of Nimbus and NB 1080s. This year i finally got back into decent shape and rewarded myself by trying these out. Amazing experience.
Definitely a cutting edge, modern shape, feels way different than a classic neutral high cushion shoe. Tremendous lightness, and you're greatly rewarded by maximizing your cadence and focusing on what i consider good form-- midfoot strike aligned under your hips. When I'm on that good behavior it's the funnest feeling of acceleration and levitation. Closest comparable experience (in net effect) was when i first ran in Kinvaras 15 odd years ago.
I have long been an 11 EE in NB and same true here.
These were super comfortable right out of the box. I got some diggage in achilles area during first runs so switched to a sock with a tab for padding there and problem solved.

New BalanceThese shoes are amazing! Super easy process, they came with no issues!

Runs short but love these shoesI love these shoes for tempo paced runs. They do run short. I sized up to a 10 when my usual size is 9.5 and am glad I did. I really like the roomy toe box and the responsive foam.

A Long Run ShoeRebel v4 is ideal for low and slow long runs where you won't be taking sharp turns. I say this because while I was doing hill repeats in this shoe, turning around and surging up the hill, my feet were slipping around on the turn. It isn't a super responsive shoe either, so it won't be the best feeling shoe for speed work. It does feel amazingly comfortable for long runs, it genuinely feels like running on a cloud. One thing I do have to mention is that you might have to go half a size down, otherwise you will have to lace them pretty tight. Overall, these are NOT a bad running shoe, nor is it the most versatile running shoe.

Great shoe!I've been waiting for the day to find the perfect trainer and it has come! The V4s are lightweight, supportive, and breathable. I've been wearing Saucony for years and will continue to do so but may be making a full switch to New Balance. Highly recommend these shoes!!

Like a Cloud! This was my first ever New Balence shoe and it did not disappoint. It is very good in all weather types! It is also a very versatile shoe. I can do a long run one day and a tempo the very next and it gets the job done! It also provides cushioning that doesn’t make the shoe heavy which is very rare. The only problem with this shoe is that its sometimes is not very stable. When I’m taking a sharp turn, it can easily slip off my foot but other than that it is made well for roads, treadmills, trails and more! I really enjoy this shoe.

Rebel Shoe is greatThis is my current favorite shoe. It fits really well, is very light, And is extremely comfortable. I had the prior model and like this one much better. I’d recommend this shoe to anyone who likes new balance and likes very light, non-bulky shoes.

Great running shoesI'm currently training for a marathon and these shoes were a great addition. They're light, responsive and have good cushion. I would recommend them for tempo, intervals or easy runs as they're not as cushioned as the NB Trainer V3.

AwesomeBest new balance shoe yet, lightweight, extremely cushioned, and I am planning to run a pb at my home meet.

A versatile daily trainerI love the Fuelcell rebel. I personally enjoyed the version 3 a bit more, with the version 4 they added a bit of stack and the foam feels a little bit firmer to me. I use this shoe for easy and tempo runs. It gives a bit of the supershoe responsive foam feel without the plate, which keeps the legs from getting too beat up but doesn't give me that feeling of artificial fitness in training that I get from Vaporflys. Overall I would recommend without hesitation!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Light weight Speedy ComfortThese are so comfortable, and that comfort last over the distance. So light they disappear on the feet. Durability is much better than originally thought it would be. I would certainly highly recommend these and have and everyone else that I recommended to loves them too!

Best New Balance ColorwayNice change from the boring New Balance colors. Fits a little tight in the toe box yet very comfortable. Cushioning isn't as good as other max cushioned shoes but overall a better shoe than the price warrants!

Runs smallI'm a fan of the Rebel and this would be my 3rd pair. They are light weight and good for a variety of runs. However, I found that my usual size was too small (not enough toe room) so I am returning them for the next larger size. Still looking forward to lots of comfortable and fast runs.

200 mile reviewI've read that some feel like the Rebel v4 loses it's bounce and responsiveness at around 100 miles. I like this shoe better now (200 miles) than I did when it was new. It got better the more it broke in. It's *slightly* more dense feeling underfoot now, but to me, that gives it more energy return (more responsive), and I prefer the slightly less squishy feeling it has now.
It's a perfect all around shoe, especially if you like light, not bulky, and not super stack shoes that have become trendy.
I originally gave a 3 star rating due to it feeling a little unstable because of the sponginess and the baggy fit. Somehow the fit feels great to me now - maybe I learned to lace it better - it's true to size (no need for me to size up 1/2 like on the v2 and v3), and the springiness is better than when new.
I rotate between this and the Mach 6, which I still prefer for runs over 8 miles.
(I'm 5'8", 140lbs, 59 yrs old, and I run about 45mi per week. recent 5k and 10k PR: 19:30 and 44:00)

Excellent all roundersBeen using this shoe for marathon training, it performs well for all the workouts I have been doing from vO2 max to long runs. Only issue is with the tongue being pulled down over the course of a run, I use a heel lock and the tongue gets almost low enough for the laces to be directly on my ankle.

Light and fastOrdered these for my son who is in the military. He need something light with good cushion. I ordered the 2 E because hae has a wide foot. He loves them and says they work great so far.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Cushioned performanceI can’t do those plated shoes. Too old and slow, and they bang out my fillings! I want good foam, reasonably light, soft, wide enough for basic stability. These shoes check off all those boxes, and if you are a midfoot striker looking for one shoe to do it all, this is it. 25 miles in, so I can’t speak yet to durability, so keep your fingers crossed…

Not for meThick shoe, plenty of cushioning, but I feel like the cushioning encourages a specific landing that wasn’t to my taste. Someone will use these and say “This is exactly what I need,” but that person wasn’t me. Love the colorway and design, fit was good, just not the underfoot experience I wanted. Going with a flatter Hoka Rincon!

Best Daily Trainer the I've wornThis will be my third New Balance Rebel, for some reason I missed the second one. That said, I really like this model over all the others, it truly is a evident improvement over version 3. I have a wide foot and fortunately this comes in a wide version, I take a 12.5 2E. This v4 will continue a few of the good aspects of the v3. Like, lower weight, comfort and a great price point. This is a Daily Trainer that will allow for a small step up in pace, but I wouldn’t specifically use it for Interval/Tempo days. For that I would look toward the NB SuperComp Trainer or maybe the NB SuperComp Pacer in the New Balance line. Really liking these shoes and enjoy every time I run with them. I have 50+ miles and there is no wear to speak of. As it happens so much in the running shoes industry, I’m glad to see they didn’t go the wrong direction from v3 to v4.

Great shoe, but a little odd fitLove the low weight on these while maintaining a nice stable base and the great midsole makes for very pleasant runs as a daily trainer. The cyber jade colorway is really striking in person and I think NB nailed the look on these as well.
The only thing I didn't quite like was that I found the fit a touch too short in my usual running shoe size, however the toebox is quite generous which does help.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Great lightweight trainerThe shoe is pretty responsive and lightweight, great for when you want to pick up the pace. The shoe propels you forward a bit with the rocker so not the best for a slower runs/ easy days. When I first tried them on I was surprised by the weight compared to a lot of the other shoes out there, this could’ve been in part due to the lack of cushion it offers but it makes up for it with its responsiveness which is why I wouldn’t use it for my slower runs. But if your looking for a faster shoe with a little cushion that’s not overly aggressive it’s a solid choice.

Light and comfortableLightweight shoe, with a good amount of cushioning without taking away from a quick turnover. They are fabulous for the marathon distance, but also would work for a 1/2 marathon or 10k.

Bouncy foam, comfortableI like these. They feel fast and bouncy. I worry about durability but they’re fun and feel good!

Jack of all trades shoeI like shoes that you can do it all in - longer, slower days, tempo, and even race. (I wouldn’t race in this shoe, but you could.) I think this version lacks some of the snap of the previous - it seems more substantial so the last iteration was faster. Still though, it’s a good value for a workhorse shoe. Fit is standard and I’ve had no issues. Nice looking too.

They are not for everyoneI think these shoes are pretty good if you run regularly, I would say that they work best for tempo long runs. I don’t think you should use them as your daily trainer because they don’t offer a lot of support and that can lead to injuries.

Super ComfyLove these shoes. They are perfect for walking and running :)

Great shoes!Super lightweight sneakers. I’d recommend them for quicker runs and generally more for lighter runners. The cushion is very soft and compresses quite a bit, which means they’re very plush on foot but maybe a little less stable for heavier folks in my opinion. Nonetheless, great purchase! Probably the best looking trainers I own.

Great for short distance runnersLove this shoe, I actually beat my mileage time with these shoes. The Rebels have such a great perfect rocker for those short/distance running sessions. Great energy return by the way. Would 100% recommend these shoes for that person that would like to bring their milage up.

Wish it had more outsole coverage!Currently my go to when I want to do a 20-30 minute run! Only complain is there is no rubber under the arch of the foot so it wears down a bit. I'm a mid food striker, 5'9" 210 lbs so just be cautious! It would be perfect if it had a bit more outsole coverage, but super soft and fun to run in!

NB Rebel v4Best shoe on the market under the $150 price point! Light, Responsive, and plenty of Cush. Acts like a Super Shoe without the Super Shoe price tag.

A big step in the right direction. My love to Rebel started with v2, which I had 2 pairs, because they fell apart after 150mi, but I loved them a lot that time! Since than and several 70.3 and 140.6 IM my race shoe is nike alphafly but I do love v4's Aesthetics, Increased stack and wider / more stable sole. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a good daily trainer.

Good shoeI am enjoying running in the NB FuelCell Rebel v4. The softness of the cushioning feels good on my legs, yet the shoe is stable - and that is good for me. I prefer to run on pavement with the Rebels, but they seem to work well on smooth dirt trails also. If you run long distance, this shoe may be good for you.

Stiffer than the previous iterationI have two pairs of the previous round of the Rebel and love them. This version is way stiffer and less cushy than my previous shoes.

Versatile shoeLight, but plenty of cushion and felt like I had plenty of protection from running longer and harder efforts. With this colorway, I didn't like that the bottoms were white (everything shows up on them!) and they scratch easy in the middle (forefoot/midfoot striker). A 5/5 if they were $30 cheaper.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I use them for the trails - mountain trailsThe V2 were great except they didn't hold up well. Mind you that I abused them greatly on nasty rugged rocky trails. The sides started splitting after 100 mi but they had phenomenal traction.
The V3 were much more rugged that the V2 and I have a pair that I still use that have around 600 mi on them and are still holding up the but it is time to retire them. I wish I had bought 10 pair of the V3.
The V4 doesn't have as good of traction in the heel as the V2 or V3 but I'm hoping the they hold up as good as the V3 has. I have run the SJS50 with the V2, V3, and V4. Best trail shoes ever! An improvement would be take the V3, put the V2 bottom surface layer on it and call it a V5. I would buy a dozen.

Continuous improvementAs a fan of the Rebel since v2, I'm impressed by the progressive improvement New Balance has made to the Rebel without screwing it up. While still somewhat of a niche shoe for fast and efficient runners, it's also stepped into the everyman category as a versatile, do-it-all daily workhorse. Impressive and responsive cushioning, adequate stability, comfortable, reasonable durability, and fairly priced are among the Rebel's hallmarks. It only comes up short (pun intended) in sizing, so some folks might need to size up by half.

Great Training ShoeBought this shoe in an effort to try a more cushioned shoe with a higher drop. I typically prefer low drop with a low stack height. Recent achilles pain left me desperate for relief while also wanting to run. These shoes are cushioned, but I can still feel the ground. I've even tried them without socks (to alleviate pressure on my achilles), and on short runs it goes well. It took getting used to, no doubt, but I like them right now for my needs. Looking forward to seeing how they feel when my achilles is at 100%. I even tried them on some light, non-technical trail, and they did well. Also, they are EXTREMELY breathable. They are so vented that you can see your socks (or bare toes) through the upper. Great for summer runs.

Comfortable and EfficientGreat shoe for normal width feet. I wear high arch insoles with these for long runs (6+miles) and they are great! No foot pain. I ordered half a size up because of the insoles. Highly recommend for long runs! Very comfortable and fashionable.

Great shoeI really like the combination of the comfort, stability, breath ability, and weight of shoe. I was not crazy about how the tongue slides down while putting them on but it was not an issue once in the shoe and adjusted. Would like to see New Balance make it in a 4e

Great shoes for beginnersI recently enrolled in a half marathon despite not being a regular runner. After trying various shoes, I found and absolutely love this pair. They provide ample wiggle space for my wide toes and running in them feels gentle on my knees. I've already logged over 50 miles in them, and they make every run feel amazing.

Cheap Materials and Not RecommendedThe New Balance Fuelcell Rebel v4 is constructed of very cheap materials and feels like something you might find at a bargain price at Nordstrom Rack or Big 5. Might be okay if your beginning a fitness program with fat feet and jog 5-10 miles a week, but definitely not for a serious runner. I'm still looking for a replacement for my Endorphin Speed 3s. These don't even come close.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
all-around standoutI've loved this shoe since v2. V4 is a step up over v3 in some ways, but maybe not in others. With its wider base and more FC PEBA foam, it's more appealing and versatile to the masses, but it's a skosh less responsive than v3. Comfy and true to size for me, but some folks will need to size up a half. Price-wise, it's an excellent value. It's comparable to the Hoka Mach 6, but the Rebel has a better fit and is more responsive.

Quality daily trainers and pacersHaven’t invested in good running shoes for a while and I didn’t realize what I’ve been missing. These feel fast, I recover quicker, and my overall running mechanics have improved significantly with this pair of shoes

Great shoe!Great all rounder! plenty of foam for easy days, yet light and nimble enough for workouts. Best shoe so far in 2024 in my opinion. Not even considering what you're getting for the price. From the last model, this is basically an improvement in every way personally other than fit. It runs a bit wide for me personally, but it doesn't bother me on the run, just a little bunching over the top of the foot that doesn't rub or anything.

Comfortable and lightweightLooking for something similar to the Hoka Mach 5. Tried these and love them.

Outstanding shoe, but runs 1/2 sz small.Love everything about the shoe, the performance is impressive. Both speed/tempo runs and long mileage are beyond satisfactory. I wear an 11.5 in everything new balance, but this one is slightly short on the toe box… Probably should look at going up 1/2 size. Otherwise, the remainder of the fit is superb!

Great shoe, highly recommend.Super light, super comfy, like running on pillows. I like the wide toe box. Of the v2, v3, and v4, I like the v4 the best. Cut into my achilles a little bit when first purchased, but that broke in after a few runs. So soft, so light. I wear them to walk, to run, to work because I am on my feet all day. Tons of compliments on the look. Do yourself a favor, pick these up.

Pretty narrow midfootTried the wide, but the midfoot/arch area cuts in pretty far. The midsole/outsole flares back out to make it appear wide all the way- but it was just way too tight for me. Had to return them.

NB Fuel CellGreat speed workout shoes. Stable foundation and responsive.

Great for easy days and long runsThese are really supportive, given how light they are. I race in the fuelcell supercomp elite v4 and wanted something comparable for non-racing, and these are perfect. I pretty much instantly swapped them out for my old long run/easy day shoes.

Super lightFeels like wearing air on your feet. Excellent ventilation and cushion. The wide is the best accommodating shoe I've found for being very wide across the ball of the foot. Not a problem for me but doesn't feel as stable as some shoes I've worn.

Love, with a couple reservations. So far I've had V1, V2, and now V4. Really enjoyed V2, V3 was too narrow and low volume in the forefoot for me. This shoe has transformed completely, in mostly good ways. V4 is quite soft, almost too soft and crazy light. Believe it or not I still have a pair of V1's I wear casually. The difference from V1 to V4 is like running barefoot on concrete versus nice soft golf course grass. My only real issue with V4 is trouble getting good lock down and the tongue is way too short and thin! Combine the short, thin tongue, short thin laces, and the lock down issue the laces end up digging into my upper foot/ankle. For me these fit true to size, if slightly snug. If you're a tweener maybe size up. Slightly rockered, good return, really a jack of all trades shoe for me. I'm 6'3 195 and run 30-40/week Even with the small issues I will be buying a second pair. 5 stars for RW!

Overrated?I now have 100 miles in the Rebel V4 and I've learned what I like and don't.
Pros: It's a fun fast workout shoe that is nice on slow runs too, has great ground feel like the V2 but with a little more protection, super light, looks awesome. But...
Cons: Like the v2 it doesn't feel great for long runs (feels good up to about 8 miles), too big-baggy-wide and that combined with the sponge-like feel makes it a little sloppy. This version runs true to size length for my narrow foot, v2 n v3 had to size 1/2 up, it's a little too spongey/squishy...making my foot work hard. I'm rotating with the Mach 6, and much prefer that shoe which is for similar all-around use.

Great comfortI’ve been having non-runner pains and was looking for a shoe to do easy jogs and this choice has been great. I did have to exchange them for a half-size bigger than my usual 8.0 as they felt very close to my toes. Running Warehouse was great with the exchange service.

Responsive and LightI use these for my speed/tempo workouts. I have had no issues with them. I plan to race 5k/10k's in them. I have done a 12 mile tempo run in these and felt consistent throughout with no aches or pains as well.

Wanted to love theseI really wanted to love these as I'm a big New Balance fan and they had such great reviews. However, something felt like it was rubbing the ball of my foot and that I was going to end up with a blister. I'm not sure if it's just the material or something about the design, but these didn't work for me.

Nice and fastThis has been a very nice, lightweight, fast shoe. It’s definitely not an everyday trainer, but is perfect for any speed work and even for race days if you want to forgo a carbon plate.
I had to return the initial pair and size up half a size; which I find I have to do with all new balance shoes, but of course running warehouse always makes it super easy.

Best Rebel yetLoving v4! Brings the same speed from v2 and adds a little stability. I have used it for speed work and some longer runs without major issue. 2 problems: there has been a little Achilles irritation which resolved with Body Glide. Second was pushing much beyond 10 I feel the ground a bit too much.

Great everyday trainerWanted to see all the hype from this shoe and right out of the box it does not disappoint. Nice bounce and plenty of cushion. I purchased from running warehouse because I was worried I would not like this shoe and wanted to know I could return it. I am in love with the shoe and might even order another pair! Give it a try.

Rebellious comfortI love these V4s. I had the V2s but not the V3s. Coming back to New Balance after a while. These are very comfortable and I think responsive. I’m 54 and run about 30 to 40 miles per week. I am rotating these with the SC trainer V2. I’m using these for faster runs and track workout. The one criticism I have is that the tongue doesn’t want to stay in place. It is a bit annoying, but it is so thin that it isn’t really a concern as it doesn’t affect comfort. In general I’m very happy with the NB rebel V4s and would recommend to anyone. Fit true to size and ample width for wider feet.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Rebel V4Not the shoe I thought it would be. It seems to bog down in the midsole area when running. Also, the shoe collar digs into the bottom underside of my ankle. I would stick with the Novablast 4.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
So cute, but too tightNot comfortable for wide feet, and unfortunately started to fall apart after one round of Rumble boxing. The bottoms and sides of the shoe began to flake off after a couple of twisting movements, so I never ended up taking them on a run as I had intended. The tops/toe box of the shoe were also a bit tight, I would size up at least one size if not 1.5.
However, loved the colors and wish they fit better!

Great daily trainerI have run nearly 200 miles on the Rebel v4 and have found it to be a fun, light, and responsive daily trainer. I run about 60-80 miles per week while in marathon training and it has held up well. I’ve taken it out for a few long runs and it does a great job when I need to pick up the pace. Likewise on shorter and easier runs it feels really comfortable.

Still love this Rebel lineI have run in Rebel series shoes for the last 2 iterations. Love the light low profile “springy” cushioning of the old version.
I run 30 miles a week on average and this is my daily runner. Have 3 pairs and rotate them.
This new Rebel V4 is bulkier and less responsive in my opinion. I still love it but not as much as the previous addition. Splitting hairs truly. Still plan to buy more of this model and put them in the rotation.

Rebel 4I was hoping NB would leave the rebel4 alone and only change the thickness of the midsole..I suspected they would change it all up and they did..fortunately I bought up some V3 while they were on sale..rebel 4 is a decent shoe ,but not as good as V3..the rebel V2 and V3 are my favorite shoes for easy training runs..the only thing it needed was more stack to make it a better longer run shoe..really don't like those plastic type uppers..they don't breath well and don't give a good lock down..

Liked the old versionI bought this shoe in 2021 and absolutely loved it, bought the new ones and they gave me bad heel blisters. I couldn’t get the heel to stay secure without tying my laces so tight I cut off circulation to my feet. It’s a bummer! Everything else about the shoe seemed great.

Bouncy, protective, but order half size upI have been a fan of the NB Rebel series since v2, and I have to say that I think v4 is the the best of the series so far. I read reviews that said it runs short and wide, so I got a half size up (usually wear a size 9, so got a 9.5) and did not order the 'wide' version. For context, I have a wide foot and usually order the wide option if it's available, but since this shoe does run quite wide, it just ordered half size up in the regular width. And it fits amazing, lockdown is great.
The ride of the shoe is super fun, bouncy, and more protective than prior versions. It feels a little more like a daily trainer than the past versions, but it is still super light and very fun to pick up the pace in. I have worn this nearly every day for all types of runs since I got it, it's great for daily easy miles, tempo runs, and would be a great race day shoe as well.

Amazing foam, disappointing fitI have been a huge fan of the rebel line. I particularly loved V2 and have mostly enjoyed V3. I was very excited for V4 and I can say that the foam is amazing. It is bouncy and very light.
I was very disappointed with the fit. I have narrow feet so I loved how easily I could get a lock down with previous versions. the upper is huge and impossible to have a snug fit on my feet. I couldn't believe that the shoe I had was the standard width as NB offers the wide fit option. Unfortunately I had to return the pair. If you have wider feet than I do, then I you will love how light and bouncy these shoes are.

Great shoeThese are very nice uptempo and hard effort shoes. NB has hit this one out of the park with the foam blend. Soft but firm, great return and not to dramatic of a roll off. Really like this shoe.

GREAT SHOEI don't write reviews, but these were deserving. Best running shoes I've had experience with. Things I look for in a review I will put regarding these shoes:
1.) Tongue is attached, so does not slide
2.) Very Light with good bounce
3.) Logged 104 miles on them and they have shown little ware. All other shoes I have gotten ware heavily on my back left heel and front right toe. These have lasted well so far.
4.) Very comfortable for easy runs or speed workouts
If I made a lot of money I would buy 3 pairs right now. Hopefully they continuing making this version!

Do everything shoeInitially I got these to do speed work and long runs while training for a marathon but I quickly kept wearing them for everything. First run I did have some pinching/rubbing on the outside/pinky toe area but that went away before I even finished the run and I would say they are true to size. Have not had any blisters or rubbing anywhere. No issues getting a good lock down in the heel (I do use a runners knot). I now plan on using these for a Half Marathon I have coming up and might get another pair and use for a full Marathon later this Summer.

Good all around trainer.I bought these for my daily trainer rotation, but I keep picking them up time after time. I have normal width feet and I really like the width of the toe box of this shoe. They are light with very breathable upper and great cushion under foot. I like the rocker/bevel of the mid sole which helps propel you a little at faster paces.

Soft and ComfortableI bought this shoe while struggling with an IT band issue. During my first run, the pain was almost a 0. A week after running in them, the pain was non existent. It is a fun and bouncy shoe. Looking forward to many more miles!

UnicornsFor me, these are unicorn shoes. I am a masters runner, and over the last 25 years have worn hundreds of shoes from manufactures across the spectrum. I was looking for an uptempo/interval day/and maybe a marathon racer.. a tall order, to be sure. as much as i find it hard to believe the Rebel V4 ticks all those boxes. I am a 55-65 mpw, 60 year old master. I have been through all of the HOKA's (I race in Rocket X2's), most of the Saucony's and Brooks. (I use the Glycerin 22 for easy day/recovery runs).
I heard about the R-V4 on the pod, and was intrigued. Connor was very positive in his comments.
When first put on, you feel the rocker, although its not as pronounced as a carbon plate, it is definitely there. The foam from heel to midfoot, has a feel (firm but not stiff) that I don't remember feeling in any other shoe, its fantastic.
My first real run was a 18.5 miler. There is no doubt that you could race a marathon in this shoe. The upper is soft and compliant, with a lacing structure that allows for a variety of snugness. I, for example, wear my right shoe looser than my left, due a foot issue. I had no issues with this shoe staying as initially laced.
This shoe makes me very intrigued by others in the NB line, as I'll admit NB was been off my radar.

Chef's kissLove these. Was really disappointed with the v3, but the v4 are great. Especially love the wider toe box!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Fantastic Versatile ShoeI love the look, feel, versatility and value of this shoe. I have been all about the Saucony Speed's and have gone through about 10 pairs since the v1 release, but I think I have found my new favorite, especially given the $30 price difference. It is light, comfortable and well cushioned yet still able to maintain nice bounce. I wouldn't race in this as I think you can get some marginal benefit out of a carbon plated racer, but I think you can do just about everything else, including easy runs, long runs and tempo work. Total winner!
Narrow feet beware! The Rebel V4 is so wide I thought it was an EE wide instead of the standard width I ordered! Way too much material across the toe box and mid foot. I have to crank the laces down super tight to get a fit on my narrow feet. I still get slippage on the ball of the foot causing hot spot / callous.
I do like the ride of the V4 and extra stability of the wider platform, but on my feet, V3 fit perfectly and they feel easier to get into a good pace and forget. I feel like the V4 is more work and just not as comfortable for me.
Looks super cool tho!
3 stars for V4, 5 stars for Running Warehouse!
Best Daily TrainerThese are without a doubt the best daily trainer shoes I have worn to date. The foam and the ride are extremely comfortable and energetic and allow you to hit faster paces with ease. Plenty of room in the toe box.
A Throwback to an Old FavoriteThe V4 is a departure from the light, snappy slipper-esque running shoes of its previous iterations. It’s better viewed as an homage to the old Adidas Boston line from before the days of max stacks. They take me back my old neon orange Boston 5s I once put nearly 1000 miles on, running right out the side of the shoe. It’s too early to tell if these will hold up the same way, but it’s a certainly a fun shoe for the money. It’s a shoe that wants to go fast but is just protective enough to go long instead. For those of you still missing that light do-everything shoe of old, welcome home.
As for the fit, it has the comfortable width of the 1080s (a pleasant departure from the narrow Rebels of old) with the “Runs 0.5 size Short” of its past. Size up and lace tight
Great shoe but 1/2 smallAfter watching so many YT reviews leading up to the release suggesting TTS, I ordered my TTS 10.5. Out of the box they were light, soft, and comfortable while wearing them casually indoors. It wasn't until I actually ran in them, my big toe started rubbing too much on the top of the fantom fit. Also the laces are too short to do a runner's knot without them digging into the top of my foot. I would have to exchange for a larger size and swap the laces, hence the 4 out 5 stars. They look great as well.
Great shoeI've been in this shoe for a few versions and loved the updated just like the others. Comfortable, light, soft.
Surprisingly impressedIn an age of carbon-plated supershoes, it was rereshing to feel just how comfortable, and fast, this shoe is. It's got great ground feel for pavement and turns over effortlessly when you pick up the pace. I'd probably race in this shoe no problem if I didn't have a carbon racer. I'm twmpted to anyway. It also keeps the same pop as its predecessor in a more comfortable package.
Best trainer in 10+ yearsAbsolutely love these. Have done ~40 miles in them. Awesome cushion with a nice smooth ride. Personally Have been annoyed with all the new super responsive foams being inserted into all the trainers for the last few years. Whatever midsole blend this is it is amazing, the outsole is nice and grippy. I get an old school feeling where the shoe doesn’t want to kill you. Great for all speeds, excellent and forgiving for long runs. These would be an awesome marathon option if carbon shoes didn’t exist.
Good update to a great shoeThese have a touch more cushioning and a touch more structure than the V3, but they still retain the heart of that original rebel feel. NB essentially modernized the shoe to keep it relevant, and they did a good job.
I found all the earlier Rebels just a little too spongy for speedwork, and these are the same. But there are plenty of firmer and plated options out there now, so it's great to have an old-school, curved-last, natural feeling shoe for everyday running.
My only complaint is that they are way too wide, esp considering there is an E/wide option available. Who will wear those - hobbits? I do have narrow feet, but there's a full half inch of extra width in the forefoot. Otherwise true to size.
Huge LetdownLoved the v2 and v3 but with the v4 I had rubbing on the heel and lateral side of right foot and a slight heel slippage on left foot. Could not get a good lockdown on the upper even with the runners knot. Toe box is too big and felt like toes were working harder to move with the shoe. After running a few miles the tongue kept slipping underneath the laces to the point where it was difficult to pull it back up. More firm/stiff and not as bouncy as the v2 or v3. Sadly will be exchanging these for probably the Mach 6's.
Uptempo SpecialistI normally don’t write reviews, but here goes. I love these shoes. These are my first pair of New Balance and I’m impressed. I ran in mizuno wave riders for years and then after a hip injury switched to Hoka Cliftons and Machs and found these to be comparable to the Mach 5’s. As far as durability is concerned I have no doubt they’ll be on the lower mileage side.
Nice ImprovementLight, good cushion without being too soft. Compared to the NB Rebel V3 the V4 is a nice improvement, slightly higher front/rear stack, forefoot is a bit stiffer but has more pop than the V3. V3 rubber was to soft & compressed wo much pop, the V4 is a bit firmer but still retains cushion. V4 is a bit wider forefoot than V3 thus the 4 star rating, has a bit more arch/mid foot lockdown, heal lock down is ok, upper is thinner/softer than V3. Top lace doesn't dig into the foot, slight heal flare which helps if foot rolling is an issue. Similar to the Kinvara 14 but with better cushion and upper.
Not a good shoeAfter one 12 mile run at various paces, I really disliked this shoe. Other than it's light weight, I didn't like anything about it. The cushioning felt flat - no bounce or liveliness.
The outsole has grip but has a plastic feeling to it. The upper is super light but also doesn't feel good -- the tongue is cheap.
I have average width feet and I found the shoe too wide. It does not hug your foot. Lockdown is OK.
Overall, just not what I was expecting. At least with the V2 Rebel you knew you were getting a soft ride and a nice upper.
It's not what V2 lovers were waiting forThis is a good shoe. The cushioning is fantastic and the shoe feels like it might be fast. I ran 21 miles on the first run out of the box (a good sign). I am getting some painful, skin removing toe rub on one of the shoes. That may just be me. I recently put 400 miles on a pair of Propel V4s and while I am not saying the Propel is the better shoe, it may be a better value for most people for most runs
