How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

A great trail optionMy previous “go to” trail shoes were causing a small painful spot in my mid-heel so I decided to shop around. It’s been difficult to find a trail shoe that doesn’t have a stiff board like sole or an unstable puffy sole. After trying a couple of other minimalist brands and I landed on the NB Minimus. The trails I run are usually pretty rocky and sometimes the hardened clay soil can be a beat down. Minimus handles the uneven surfaces with just enough midsole flexibility so my lower leg can adapt easily. The heel gives a nice spring for bounce back energy up through my legs. My runs are average 4-10 miles normally. I find these are true to size. I have high arches and narrow feet. Since these come in B width I have to lace them down pretty tight near the forefoot. I wear green arch supports which fit nicely in the Minimus, sometime with or without the original sole insert. Yes I just ordered a second pair for spring training.

Not what I was hoping forAs a long time fan of the originals, I was hoping for a return to this, but was disappointed. While it was nice to not feel every rock on the trail, the higher stack left me rolling ankles and feeling unstable without that ground connection.

Minimalism is back, babyThese shoes are great for someone who was into minimalism during its heyday, but fell out of it due to a lack of recent options. Purists will say these have too much stack and drop to be considered truly minimal, but with how soft the midsole is, I didn't notice the drop, and the stack is low enough to offer natural stability on the trails. Upper: For a minimal trail shoe, the upper is surprisingly soft and comfortable. There's no extra eyelets for doing a runner's knot, but I'm able to tie the laces tightly without getting any foot pain. The heel is interesting - a plush band across the top with thin, elastic material hugging onto the heel. On steep ascents, it can feel like my heel is lifting because of the elastic, but it holds well overall. On steep descents I experienced some foot slippage, but nothing too disturbing. Midsole: The relatively thin FuelCell midsole is comfortably soft, but you'll definitely feel the odd pointing rock on some trails. I'm not sure I'd say it helps you run faster, but it's fun and somewhat bouncy given how thin it is. Outsole: Closely space chevrons on the forefoot and heel are deep enough to provide traction in most conditions but are also fairly comfortable on stretches of pavement. The only issue I ran into was slipping on some wet rocks during steep climbs. They even gripped well on wet wooden bridges. My one complaint is the way they stitched in the insole. I can feel the ridge of the seam with my big toe. I thought that I'd wind up with a blister from that for sure, but on the run I couldn't feel it at all and haven't had any blisters or hot spots. Overall, I found these shoes to be great on all sorts of runs. They're most at home on more groomed trails with rolling hills, but I thought they were more than capable on steep single track. I'd give them a shot if you like minimal shoes that allow you to be more nimble on trails.

Like the old Minimus Trail, but betterThis shoe feels almost exactly like the old Minimus Trail shoes from about 10 years ago, but improved with just enough cushioning to make a rough trail comfortable. You still feel the ground underfoot in all the right ways, but if you should land on a sharp rock, the shoe absorbs it, not your foot. The heel counter is soft and comfortable (I find that most shoes today have a heel counter that's far too rigid, causing blistering). Love these shoes and I hope that New Balance might bring back a Minimus road shoe!

Not Like the Old Minimus MT 10 V1I wanted to like this shoe as my all time favorite running shoe was the GOAT of all shoes the NB Minimus 10 V1 but this shoe is just not comparable. I run exclusively in minimalist shoes and can say these are not minimalist. The stack height is a little too high and the outsole does not follow the profile of the shoe causing instability on bumpy trails. The foot is also hard to lock down
