Nike reworked the shoe's cushioning, plate, and upper to create a smoother experience while keeping the responsive, propulsive character the Alphafly is known for.
The biggest update is the introduction of ZoomX LT foam, a new foam developed for the Alphafly 4. It is lighter than the standard ZoomX and meant to provide a softer, more energetic feel underfoot.
The Alphafly 4 continues to use two forefoot Air Zoom units, with each unit divided into separate chambers. The two units work together under the forefoot to contribute to the shoe's propulsive feel while the updated construction uses less plastic to reduce weight.
A wider carbon fiber Flyplate works with the cushioning system to create a smoother transition through each stride. Combined with additional foam above the plate, the Alphafly 4 has a softer, more cushioned feel while maintaining the rolling sensation expected from a high-level marathon racer.
The new Atomknit upper provides a lightweight, secure fit with improved breathability, including a more breathable toe box for added comfort during long-distance efforts. Underneath, the lightweight Fast Shot outsole provides traction for road racing without adding unnecessary weight.
