Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.
Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have a built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stable

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

The Nike Pegasus Trail 5 delivers comfort and performance that runners can trust on and off the trails. Its new ReactX foam midsole reduces the carbon footprint by at least 43% compared to the prior React foam, without compromising its soft cushioning and responsiveness. In addition, this shoe features a rocker design that ensures a smooth ride from heel to toe, making each step feel effortless.

In the upper is an engineered mesh reinforced with tighter woven fabric in high-wear areas to provide enhanced coverage and protection, while strategically placed ventilation holes ensure optimal breathability. Flywire technology integrates seamlessly with the laces, delivering a secure fit around the midfoot for premium comfort.

Finishing the shoe off is an updated outsole featuring less rubber for easier transitions from road to trail. With an underfoot traction system built to keep your footing on off-road surfaces, as well as additional rubber wrapped around the front to provide extra durability, the Nike Pegasus Trail 5 is a versatile shoe ready to tackle any terrain.

What You'll Love:

  • Soft and responsive underfoot
  • All-terrain traction lugs for roads and tame trails

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

I love these shoesTrail shoes almost always feel flat and firm with unnecessary large luga and rigid toe caps that bother my toes on long runs. Not these. These absolutely NAILED what I have been wanting in a trail/ultra shoe. Comfortable mesh upper without a toe cap, soft and responsibe midsole that feels good on long descents and snappy when you pick up the pace. And just enough grip for every kind of trail I will possibly run in PNW. I only hope they don't change them toouch when the next update comes around. I did size up a half size. Every other shoe I am running right now is a 9.5 (Adidas terrex, Brooks Cascadia, Craft Pacer, Nnormal Tomir, Dynafit Ultra 50, Nike Vomero, ON CloudEclipse and cloudgo) but I went up .5 as recommended by Nike and the fit is spot on.

Ahhhhhhh relief!!!!!These shoes are so comfortable for my profession! I am a hair stylist/barber so I am on my feet all day standing on a mat. These shoes make me feel like my feet are buoyant when walking or standing and shifting my weight. I have purchased four pair of the Nike Pegasus shoes in the last year and a half just because I want different colors and different styles for different days! They wash perfectly in my machine and then air dry looking like new!

Great Update to an Already Awesome Shoe!I've had the last three versions of the Nike Pegasus Trail shoes. The Pegasus Trail 4 was my favorite until the Pegasus Trail 5 came out! I've hiked and trail ran in each the last version and this one. The new one seems lower to the ground therefore more stable but somehow more responsive, cushiony, and comfortable. I always get excited to put these on. Bonus, they look great for causal wear too! I wear these running and also out around town with jeans or casual shorts since they are so comfortable and good looking. They are very durable as well and seem to be holding up well to all of the terrain and elements. I would highly recommend!

Excellent every day shoes!I am not a trail runner, nor am I even a runner in general. I bought these because they looked cool. I've gotten many compliments on them, and they are an extremely comfortable wear for chores, yard work, and out-and-about stuff. I prefer these to the HOKA Clifton 9's in my closet as well from a comfort standpoint.

Huge UpgradeThis is one of those complete redesigns that improved on the last iteration, more cushion, but retain bounce. The toe box is slight wider and the grip has improved, run mostly dry rocky Arizona trails.

First impressionsI’ve never ran in a Pegasus trail shoe. Recently purchased the Peg 5 and after a few shorter runs on hilly and soggy crushed gravel on a lake trail, I am pleasantly surprised. They have a nice semi-firm but forgiving cushion that left my feet feeling totally comfortable after 6 miles. I feel like they could go to a 20k distance no problem. I do wish the drop was less but for a shorter distance road/trail shoe it’s a minor consideration. There were a few wet wooden bridges that felt slick but wet rocks seemed fine likely because they had something to grip onto. (I busted it hard one time on those same bridges with the Speedgoat vibram.) Overall, if you’re looking for a road to trail shoe for those simple and enjoyable runs or shorter trail runs with an elevated pace, these are a great option. Oh… and get the white. Looks great with a little dirt caked on.
