With an impressive history of dominating the podiums at both road and track races around the world, Nike now sets its sights to do the same on the trails with the Ultrafly Trail. This revolutionary trail running shoe has been engineered to compete with the fastest trail shoes on the market.

Drawing inspiration from Nike's esteemed road racing models, the Vaporfly NEXT% and Alphafly NEXT%, the Ultrafly Trail possesses all the qualities of a trail conqueror, beginning with its exceptional midsole design. At the core of the Ultrafly Trail lies the unrivaled ZoomX foam cushioning, renowned for its feather-light composition, plush feel, and extraordinary responsiveness. And putting the "fly" in Ultrafly is the carbon FLYPLATE embedded in the midsole that works with the ZoomX to propel propels runners on the climbs and maintain blazing speeds on the trails.

For ultimate grip and traction, the Ultrafly Trail features Vibram rubber in the outsole, making it easier than ever to traverse the trails in any weather condition. Its flat bottom and streamlined geometry guarantee stability and nimbleness from the start to the finish line. Completing this shoe is the lightweight and durable Vaporweave mesh upper that offers excellent protection against the elements while remaining breathable and quick-drying. With the internal foot band ensuring a secure lock down, runners can remain focused on the twists and turns ahead.

Good not great.Ran roughly 60 miles in them. I noticed the toe box was just slightly narrow for my feet immediately, but wanted to love them so I ignored it. By mile 50 I decided I couldn’t live with them, but I had 10 miles left in my run. Everything else was top shelf. Loved the carbon plate returning my energy. Vibram sole never fails. Upper was durable and aesthetically pleasing.

Fit great, but outer side bar rubbedHad high hopes because Zoomx cushion, and great midfoot wrap with narrow heel and roomy toe box. BUT, outer side bar rubbed side of my feet

High praise of this shoe unwarrantedFirst off, this shoe feels comfortable upon step in and seems to have a nice hold of the foot. I will say it does seem to make running feel a bit easier on the legs, but I don't notice a real discernible difference in efficiency. But thats about all the good that I can really say about this shoe. To me it seems like a group project where multiple different people designed different parts of the shoe and then cobbled it together. Some did more poorly than others. Front of the shoe feels great, plenty of room in the toes while still feeling like the toes are locked down, no sliding around or too much volume, no floppyness up front. But then we have heal that has almost no heal hold and a loose ankle collar that allows debris to come right in. On top of an obviously cushy bouncy foam, with a massive forefoot platform. The result is an overly cumbersome ride that seems to be geared towards a heal strike. The outsole while it is a grippy vibrim rubber has flare on the heal but not on the forefoot, within less than 50 miles because of the huge width of the forefoot and no flare up front the rubber has already worn way down and is even wearing into the foam. Hence, not forefoot runner friendly. It is so heavy and bulky than even though it takes some of the bite out of faster efforts, I do not feel nearly as confident navigating each stride forward with these massive things on trail, not nearly so as running in something like the Salomon Pulsar. Anyway, for me its a huge miss for a shoe costing this much. If it were $100 cheaper I wouldn't be so harsh. But I was absolutely expecting more than a glorified bulky daily trainer. Lets hope they come up with something better for v2.

Almost perfect road to trail racer.Let’s go to the 2 negatives first: 1) midsole lacks cushion in forefoot. Needs about 3-4 mm more in the forefront for added comfort and performance, especially for hard packed trails/roads and downhills 2) shallow lugs. Not best traction on dirty trails. Although it sports a Vibram outer sole , not a good trail shoe all year round for muddy , dusty trails. Postives: upper is a gem in comfort. Slipper like feel and fit. The last or shape is perfect. Great room around forefoot. I never feel rubbing or friction in toe box. Amazing! The heel cup is minimal and also semi -soft and not rigid in the heel counter bottom. If you have bone spurs, bursitis , or heel bone sensitivity this shoe is great in comfort and stability. Feels like I am running in a second foot. Meshes and molds perfect with my foot and I have no issues with bony sensitive heel , blistered/ battered big toes and high instep pressure. The lace system eyelets locks down without adding pressure points on instep or top of foot. The stability and confidence of lock down in the ultrafly is outstanding. The plate seems to add economy of effort on uphills. Overall , I think the Ultrafly hits the spot of giving you a road racing feel in a trail package! I love the comfort and shape of this shoe, fits like a slipper meets glove. My only gripes are the grip (needs a little more lug height) and cushion/stack height (needs more cushion in forefoot & and little more in the heel) to bring it to a balanced 7mm drop.

Love these shoes.I just finished a four hour run of RPE 5-6 and I swapped into these shoes for the last hour from my normal moderate cushion trail runners. And I freaking loved that last mile. Felt like flying. I know this shoe is really just Nikes first try and it’s gonna get way better from here so nothing wrong with waiting. But I think most folks will love the feel of these bad boys.

Fast and furious!Ran WSER100 2024 with them - between Robinson Flat and Finish. They are fast and quite comfortable. They protect very well your soles and the toe box is large and safe.

My favorite trail shoeI was pleasantly surprised having a wider foot and not having run in a Nike shoe for some time. The Vibram sole is the best out there in my opinion. Perhaps not the go to shoe for super technical trails requiring hiking as they don't have the best stability but a fast shoe for runnable terrain. I took them to Hawaii volcanoes descents and California trails and they have been great. They do gather small rocks and dust between the two thin forefoot material layers. All in all my go to race shoe and favorite for fast trail racing.

Almost perfect!Everything about it is perfect except for the upper sole where it is a bit stiff and sorta digs into top of my feet.

Good for what they are.First off....these are very comfortable. I have maybe 50 miles in them and have mostly enjoyed them. One issue to be aware of. These shoes are very stiff. Very little flex and I'm not sure the carbon plate is needed. It also takes a little work to get a good lock down. If these were $150 I would recommend them. At $260 I'm not so sure.

It deliversSo hard to find competitive level reviews for this shoe for long distances - so I bought em and raced a 50 miler in them. So this review is focused on pretty good (think 2:30ish marathoners) runners who like to race long stuff off road. These things deliver. Are they perfect on wet roots, mud, slick rocks - no. But let’s be real. Those sections are probably no more than 10% of most races and for the other 90% they fly. Don’t be afraid if there are some technical portions - anything you lose you’ll make up on other stuff and your legs will thank you. The MOST comfortable shoe I’ve worn. Lugs are the right size (again see above) and they are durable. They got muddy but they cleaned up and look no worse for the wear after pounding them. They don’t POP like other carbon road shoes but the stack height is great and the shoe rolls quick. Do it. Buy them. AND RACE THEM.
