Our testers found the Brooks 3 Inch Chaser to be a comfortable and lightweight pair of running shorts that delivers on performance, speed, and style. The reviewers especially enjoyed the natural fit and comfort of the built-in brief liner, which didn't ride up or show any panty lines. The Chaser's new flat waistband received praise for its secure, slippage-free fit. Our testers also loved the shorts' lightweight, breathable fabric, which provided both a flattering fit and a chafe-free run. The Brooks Chaser shorts feature two small internal pockets (with one bungee cord) and a secure zipper pocket in the back for convenient storage of keys or I.D. cards. The only real issue our testers had was that they felt the 3" length was a bit too short for their personal tastes. Overall, our reviewers agree that the Brooks Chaser 3 Inch Short offers an extremely comfortable built-in brief liner and high-quality, durable fabric that delivers on performance and value.

Features & Style
Caroline: "The Brooks Chaser 3" is designed for speed and does its job well as a high-performance speed training short. The hidden slits on the sides provide flexibility of motion, and my movement was not hindered or restricted at all. The exposed, logo-branded waistband, which now sits higher on the waist, offers a comfortable, secure fit, so there's no slippage. If you're running with small essential items, the Chaser has the storage you need. For convenience, the shorts have two small pockets in the inner liner and a secure zipper pocket on the back. My smartphone did not fit in the zipper pocket, but I tend not to store items on my back to avoid any bounce when running. I did like the bungee loop for securing keys, which one of the smaller internal pockets had."
Liz: "While these shorts have a very simple design, I have received SO many compliments on them. The soft fabric lies well on my body and gives this short a flattering fit. The simple elastic waistband holds the shorts firmly in place, and the rear zipper pocket is perfect for holding my keys and cards while on the run."

Comfort & Fit
Caroline: "The soft built-in brief liner was comfortable and provided secure coverage. The sweat-wicking material kept me dry, even during my long-distance runs. I liked the comfort of the flat waistband because I'm not a fan of scrunched-up waistband styles. I did feel the subconscious need to adjust the shorts sometimes to make sure I wasn't revealing too much because the inseam is pretty short. The lightweight material does feel cool, breezy and airy, which would be great during hot summer runs."
Liz: "I don't know what Brooks did, but the comfort of the brief liner beats any other short that I have tried. Instead of feeling like an extra, ill-fitting pair of underwear, the brief liner seems to disappear. No lines and no wedgies mean a win in my book. Finally, the outer short has a soft and stretchy feel and drapes beautifully on the body with a flattering cut."

Quality & Value
Caroline: "The Brooks Chaser is a high-performance running short that would be ideal for tempo runs and speed training. The shorts are durable and designed with premium soft material that dries quickly. Wash after wash, the fabric remained soft and held up well."
Liz: "Brooks apparel is always well constructed and made with high-quality materials. It seems like the people at Brooks go out of their way to make their products a step above the competitors quality-wise at the same price points. I would say that is definitely the case with the Chaser 3" short. Everything down to the pockets and the cut of the brief liner adds value to this product. I would definitely recommend these shorts above comparable items from other brands in the same price range."

The Brooks Chaser 3" Shorts certainly live up to their name because you can definitely chase miles and pick up the pace in these shorts. The shorts did not restrict my movement at all and allowed me to run faster and perform better with the freedom they provided thanks to their lightweight construction. The flat waistband offers a comfortable, secure fit, and I never had any worries that the shorts would slide down. I did not experience any irritation or chafing, which is a big plus for this sensitive-skinned gal. I just wish the inseam was a couple of inches longer. The 3" was a bit too short for me, and I would have preferred more coverage, which the Brooks 5" Chaser offers. Especially when running uphill or at an incline, the side slits do reveal more leg. The shorts provide decent rear coverage, but a couple more inches would give the modest runner more peace of mind. |

As a curvy woman with big thighs/butt and a smaller waist, I have a very hard time finding running shorts that don't ride up, and because of this, I often wear tights or short tights instead. I was a bit skeptical about trying a 3" short as I usually prefer something longer, but I finally have a pair of shorts that I gravitate to over my tights for daily runs. While this may not be the holy grail of shorts that I am searching for, the Brooks Chaser's comfort and fit have landed them at the top of my list so far. Although I still have an issue with the material riding up between my thighs, the shorter inseam results in almost no bunching or chafing since there isn't much material for it to ride up to begin with. My favorite part of these shorts is the fit of the brief liner; I don't even notice that it's there! There are no wedgies to be had, and I also love that the liner and shell combo isn't visible while on. Sometimes, I find that the seams of the brief leave obvious lines through the outer short, but I had no issues with lines showing on the Chaser 3". My only issue with this short is its length. While I think the length helps the Chaser 3" meet my requirements on fit, it definitely lacks the modesty of a longer short. I have become comfortable showing so much leg, but I think a 5" short might be more appropriate for my tastes. |
