They're a staple in every runner's closet. If you're newer to running shoes, you can confidently start your journey here.

  • Performance TrainersPerformance Trainers

Often built with carbon fiber plates and cutting edge superfoams for the highest energy return, they're made for ultimate racing speed.

Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.
Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral Running Shoes

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stability Running Shoes

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

For those who want a 5K to 10K racing option that offers a close to the ground feel while still providing the benefits of resilient cushioning, take a look at the Sinister. Runners will experience a lightweight and energetic ride from start to finish thanks to the PWRRUN PB foam midsole. But don't let the shoe's lower profile fool you, the midsole has enough protection to keep your feet energized and comfortable the whole race.

Covering the outsole is a thin layer of rubber with a chevron grip design that offers excellent traction without adding unnecessary weight. To continue this weight savings, the spike-like upper features a thin layer of ripstop mesh that is incredibly lightweight and breathable. A secure fit is ensured by the midfoot lacing system and fully integrated, soft stretch knit tongue, and the upper is rounded out with comfortable heel design that consists of a velvety soft suede-like material with a thin plastic piece for structure. Overall, the Saucony Sinister is a fantastic option for competitors looking for a plate-less, super responsive racing flat that feels weightless on foot yet makes a big impact on race day.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Versatile with modern foam and lower stackThanks to Saucony for making this, and fingers crossed they will make more or a successor. Modern critical foam for protection and energy return with low enough stack for no plate and natural feel. Sublime.

What a great shoe!!!The Saucony Sinister is a great running shoe! I use this shoe for daily training, track workouts, cross-country, long runs and have raced a half-marathon in them. Please recognize this shoe is not for everyone. It does not have a plate. It does not have a guidance system or any other technological devices. It does not have a lot of cushioning, however, its simplicity makes it in my mind one of the best shoes that have come out in a long time. Too many shoe manufacturers copy each other trends and the latest trend of maximal cushioning creates stilts for you to twist or turn an ankle. This shoe is very flexible. You generate the toe off. The heel collar is soft, which is a blessing for those with achilles issues. It has just the right amount of cushion to protect and provide you feedback for the surface you are running on.

Fast! They are a very light and fast shoe. I only use them for intervals and 5k training. They do wear out a bit quick but I’m 170. Overall I love the low profile of this shoe and it’s a great feeling when pushing the shorter distance paces.

great fit super light wears down quicklyI love how light and fast these feel, my first run was 2x20min at about 7:15 pace and the bottoms look like I ran over 100 miles in them, compared to my ride 16s ( which I put about 275 miles on, I weigh 180). Not happy with that, probably a great shoe to race in but won't last for rotating into my typical training.

Great 5k racing flatThis is a lightweight racing flat with great energy return from the foam and the non-carbon plate. I would use this for race distances from 1 mile to 10k, but I think it's sweet spot is the 5k. Comfortable fit, true to size or slightly longer (might need to half size down, but I was ok sticking with my usual size from other racing shoes and trainers).

Flying under the radar (and ahead of others!)My only regret about buying the Sinister is that I waited so long to do it. I waited because I wear a size 13 in the Endorphin Speed/Pro 3 (and my Tempus is a 13 and is fine, though a 12.5 probably would have been fine too, but I did try the Speed in a 12.5 and 13 was definitely the better choice) and the Sinister only goes up to 12.5. The 12.5 fits perfectly though! I had heard that despite the relatively soft PB foam, the Sinister does not bottom out like some others (Streakfly, Liberate). Even at 6'3" and in the 160's (lbs), I can confirm. It's quite remarkable how supportive and comfortable the relatively low stack of PB foam in this shoe is. I'm also very sensitive to lack of lateral stability in shoes and have had no issues with that here. The underfoot feel is so much more comfortable than the Hyperion Tempo it replaced (and I love that shoe), while still doing a great job of supporting faster running with a less heavy heel strike than I normally do and running with a higher cadence. The bounciness of the foam combined with the extreme lightness of the shoe allow for a short ground contact time if you focus on it. The shoes also feel particularly good on both uphill and downhill sections, which is remarkable. They are marketed as a 5k-10k shoe (or even just 5k for some), but I feel like I could take them much farther, which I couldn't say about the HT's. The longest I've done so far is a 10k, but I did not feel them lacking in any way for that race. I feel like a shoe this light, stable, supportive, bouncy, comfortable, fun, and fast shouldn't be physically possible. I've already PR'd in the 5k and 10k in them (road races), and hope to have some luck on the track in them soon. I can't say enough good things about this shoe. If you haven't tried it, you don't know what you're missing. It may fly under the radar in Saucony's lineup, but it'll have you flying down the road (or track).

Saucony Sinister"Sinister" name choice is a joke. There is nothing threatening about the fit or performance. I have ordered and used this shoe ever since it was introduced. I use it for speed work and for walking as well. The challenge of the sewed in tongue makes "entering" the shoe a bit difficult, but because of the sewed in feature, it never makes "tongue slip" a problem. No matter what the speed, the shoe works for me. Other reviews seem to agree. I hope this shoe is renewed as long as I'm around. I have reordered this shoe six times.

AwesomeBeing a devout fan of the Saucony Type A, my hat is off to Saucony for completely revitalizing this very important category of fast running shoes. Very comfortable and an absolute blast to run in. Nice grippy sole just enough cushion to go at least half a marathon

Shoe gave me blistersI went for a 7 mile run and the first 2 miles felt great, like I was flying. On a run that felt easy, I was going at an average of 8:06/mile and my easy paces are usually closer to 8:40 pace. And it just felt great. After mile 2, I felt a blister coming on and I was forced to slow down. The pain I felt was just miserable and when I had finished my 7.3 miles of running, I had a huge blister that needed a fee days to heal. It was very painful. I think that if the Saucony Sinister can have a wide foot shoe or more toe/arch room, it would have been the perfect shoe. I wish there was a shoe that can combine the lightness of the Saucony Sinister with the comfort of the Altra Escalante/Provision shoes where there are plenty of toe and arch room. Maybe something to consider for future models or make.

Saucony SinisterI love this shoe. Feels very light yet has adequate cushioning for shorter races. I believe it runs a little narrow. I ordered a 9.5 and a 10, but kept the 10. If you have wide feet, I would size up one half size. This shoe is like the racing flats they made years ago. If this is what you're used to, buy a pair by all means.

Bring back classic racing flatsOverall like this shoe and I've enjoyed running in it for anything from 5k to marathon. Was surprised how firm the midsole was at first, after 50 miles or so is softened up and feels very nice. Better to be a bit firm rather than really squishy which can lead to stability issues. Would have preferred 3-4mm heel-toe difference and maybe 20mm foam in heel rather than 25. Not a big fan of the back of the shoe cupping to fit the heel, the achilles tendon gets irritated, I just cut away at heel counter. Better if back of the shoe was vertical and stayed low on achilles. Note on size: true to size, but really curves in hard on 4th/5th toes so had to size up half size. This last shape was pretty typical of Saucony in old racers (Kilkenny xc spike comes to mind). Be nice if they didn't cut in so hard/narrow on toes. I'd like to see more traditional flats with the new PEBAX foams, the Reebok float ride pro was probably one of my favorite racing shoe all time (over 25 years of racing).

Fast shoe but blisters on arch (both sides)Was looking for something that would allow for a fast 5k time over mixed terrain and uneven surfaces. Instead of going with the endorphin elite or nike vaporfly I went with these. I was glad I did -- I set a 5k PR (best time in 5 years) and it was perfect for the mixed cross country course (grass, road, gravel) - good responsiveness, especially around turns and accelerating over uneven terrain. The only problem (hence 4 instead of 5 stars) is that there is some sort of hard material on the arch (both sides) that broke the skin on the bottom of my foot and caused a painful abrasion - very awful - but worth it for the 5k time. If it had been any longer race I would have had to stop.

Sinister By Name. Fast By NatureWhat a great shoe, light as heck, nimble, fast, love it. Thanks Saucony for creating a shoe that feels like an old school speed shoe with the new school materials. Generally a 7, went up half a size as they run narrow and this worked out just great. Toe socks work best in these, the thin ones due to it not being a roomy shoe and with the toe socks you get great additional feel and comfort. Also a good value for money fast shoe compared to the gregarious marshmallow plated shoes that are often unstable and can't turn corners like a boss.

Made for fast workoutsI love using this for track workouts on 400, 600 1k and above reps. Being so low to the ground, yet still giving off good energy return of that pwrn pb. The weight is as low as a track spike, which makes it so good for workouts on the track.

Small FitI didn't end up running in these but I wanted to. The fit was very short and narrow for me. I full size up might have helped but I think they still would have been too narrow. I was looking forward to these as a possible peba Kinvara replacement. Maybe version 2 will fix the fit issue.

Great Uptempo shoesI bought these “flats” to occupy during speed or tempo runs. 13 miles in (or 3 workouts) i can say that they definitely get the job done. I have stronger feet and prefer less cushion & support so this may not work for everyone. BUT, they are super lightweight, snug, and have responsiveness. However, Pwrrun PB is not as bouncy as zoomx or fuelcell… though that could be because they need to break in more.

Beautiful SimplicityLIGHTWEIGHT!! Comfortable. Great lockdown. Good ground feel and feedback. Flexible. Strengthens foot and ankles. Even with the low stack, it protects the legs with the powerrun PB. I train for middle distance track races and mile to 5k road races. I run mostly faster (relative to me) efforts on the track and these keep you stable. If I were king for a day: 1. These would be somewhere in the 0-4mm drop range instead of 6mm. 2. There would be less arch support. 3.They would be cheaper cause they're somewhat lower tech. 4. There would be a comparable training version available. I love these so much that I'm probably going to use them for all my non-spiked runs including my road mile to 5k races. Saucony, please keep targeting shorter distance, minimalist runners and bringing beautifully simple shoes like these to the marketplace

Return of a Traditional Racing FlatThere is almost too much to say because writing about traditional racing flats today inherently contrasts with high stack, carbon plated, "super-shoes." A study reported in the Journal of Sport and Health Science (2022) found that the Vaporfly 4% generally produced faster 3K times than a Saucony traditional flat. However, the energy savings was not statistically significant. Individualized differences were apparent and were not influenced by perception, how would they have confirmed this? Here is where the matter seems to lie: Individual differences. A much older runner, I prefer the performance and feel of traditional running flats. Having a narrow, small volume foot, the Sinister is a perfect fit for me and performs speed work on the track and on the treadmill very well; I have yet to race in them. I especially enjoy the toe off of the Sinister, rather than the mechanically engineered forward roll of a "super-shoe. " The Sinister does provide distinctively more pop than the older Saucony endorphin racing flat. I have to concede that I ran a faster mile race in the Vaporfly 4% than I did in the older Saucony endorphin racing flat, but my training volume and intensity were higher before the Vaporfly 4% race. And both performances were age group course records. As an older runner I have a healthy respect for the (lost?) art of shoe wear patterns. My wear pattern in a traditional flat is far more medial and forward than in a "super shoe." I still believe, with a paucity of evidence, that the average runner stands far more to gain from acute attention to training, than from a particular shoe.

First runPositive first run - these just arrived and were as light as expected. Feel is highly cushioned for the weight/stack, comparable to Skechers Razor, Atreyu Base, Puma Liberate Nitro, but lighter than all three. Definitely felt the rebound/energy return in a positive way, with less effort for the pace. Beats all three shoes mentioned. The upper is plasticky but not too stiff. I did go sockless and it’s definitely not soft or smooth - has more of a rough texture as if to grip your foot/prevent slippage. Less comfort than all three shoes mentioned above, but no real issues.
