All Women's Road Shoes

  • Daily TrainersDaily Trainers

The baseline definition of a running shoe. Daily Trainers lean on time-proven designs, technologies and features for dependable cushioning, support and comfort. They're a staple in every runner's closet, and if you are new to running shoes, then you should start your journey here.

  • Performance TrainersPerformance Trainers

Performance Trainers provide a springy feel and make longer runs easier and faster runs faster. While quicker than Daily Trainers, Performance Trainers are not nearly as fast as Super Shoes. Due to a focus on keeping things light weight, Performance Trainers are less durable than Daily Trainers. These can also be a good option for one's first race shoe.

  • Super ShoesSuper Shoes

Super Shoes are the fastest running shoes you can buy. They are designed to race your absolute best and represent the pinnacle of running shoe technology and innovation. They have the highest energy return foams and plates for new levels of performance. Low durability, but maximum speed is the name of the game here.

Men's Running Shoes by Surface

  • Roads & PavementRoads & Pavement

Road running shoes feature smooth outsoles that are designed for running on paved surfaces such as roads, sidewalks, and bike paths.

  • Smooth Trails & FireroadsSmooth Trails & Fireroads

Designed to handle most trail runs, these shoes prioritize comfort and a smooth ride. These shoes are great for anything from smooth singletrack, park trails, and fireroads making them ideal for those who run from their doorstep on streets before hitting the trail.

  • Rocky & Technical TrailsRocky & Technical Trails

These shoes are best used for hard, rugged trails such as shale, granite or sandstone where grip on smooth surfaces and underfoot protection are important.

  • Soft & Muddy TrailsSoft & Muddy Trails

Designed for use in muddy, soggy conditions, these shoes feature very aggressive outsoles that dig deep into soft ground for exceptional traction.

  • Snowy & Icy TrailsSnowy & Icy Trails

These shoes feature technical outsoles designed to grip snowy and icy trails making them ideal for winter trail running.

Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.
Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have a built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stable

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

The Topo Athletic Specter 2 is a rare gem, being one of the few options that features a generous stack of premium superfoam without a plate or carrier foam. The Specter 2 is ideally suited for top-performance daily training, long workouts, and even racing for those that want to forego stiff plates.

With 2 mm more foam underfoot than the previous Specter, Topo has dialed up comfort over long runs, but the added comfort doesn’t sacrifice on speed. The new full-length Pebax Powered midsole gives exceptional energy return, combining with the propulsive forefoot rocker for quick transitions.

In the outsole, strategically placed rubber in high abrasion areas offers excellent traction and durability while keeping weight to a minimum. Wrapping up this dream is a recycled mesh upper for a lightweight breathable experience in Topo's signature fit: a roomy toe box coupled with a secure midfoot and heel.

Thoughtfully designed for runners seeking a protective running shoe with a speedy feel, the Topo Athletic Specter 2 is ideal for pushing the pace over long distances.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Couldn't be betterThis is the best walking shoe I've ever had. Great for people with a wide toe spread and soft cushion walk. We discovered this shoe at the 2025 Boston Marathon and now my wife & daughter & son-in-law and myself live in them.

Awesome shoe technology with a wide toe box. This shoe is fun and can do it all. Finally a pebax shoe with a wide toe box. This shoe is fantastic. Would recommend going up a half size though.

Soft, comfortable, but clunkyFit - as others have said, it is a bit short in the toe box. It bothered my toes for the first 20 or 30 miles, but then it stopped being an issue for some reason. (I'm ~200 miles in at this point). I like the wide toe box -- no complaints here. Nice lock down, and no heal slippage. I also appreciate the soft heel cup -- no rubbing or blisters. On the run -- This is a decent 'do it all' shoe. It is definitely my softest shoe, so I find myself gravitating to it when my legs are beat up. But it can handle up-tempo cruising miles too. My main complaint is that it feels clunky due to the width of the midsole. I think in an effort to make it stable, they put the upper on top of a very wide platform. I would prefer to forego some stability for a more streamlined fit. The high sidewalls on the shoe also provide the sensation that most of the foam is on the outside of the shoe, while the thinnest part of the midsole is right under the ball of the foot. This bothers me too. I think it should be the other way around. Its not a bad shoe, but the latter two issues would prevent me from purchasing again.

Not for meI was hoping these would be a fun running experience, but not a fit for me. The lower drop is definitely noticeable and the midsole is much more firm than I expected. Upper and outsole are pretty nice, but in the end had to return these.

A Bit too Much CushioningFor me, the Topo Specter 2 had more cushioning than I like and without the responsive ‘pop’ I love in a shoe. It’s a great looking shoe with an awesome toe box. I will try some other Atropos in the future because it’s a great company!

Specter 2I live these shoe I wore them for the first time when I ran The Hennepin 50k in October. My feet felt like they were on clouds the whole time I was running. I will definitely buy these shoes again

Light. Responsive. Stable. Cavernous Toebox.I put 46 quick miles on the Specter 2 before returning it for two reasons: blisters caused by a too-big toebox, and toes flirting with the end of the shoe. I found the Phantom 3 and Cyclone 2 to run true-to-size, and I loved both shoes for their goldilocks midsoles and just-right toeboxes. But I found the toebox on the Specter 2 to be cartoonish. It seems that while Altra is dialing back the duck shape, Topo is leaning into it. On first run, the toes of my longer foot grazed the end of the shoe, something that never happened with other Topo shoes of the same size. After that, I took care to really lock down the laces, which solved the problem somewhat, but even then, my toes always feel ready to smash into the end of the shoe, especially if I were to hit a downhill. Once I found a better lockdown, my toes were still sliding around in the Grand Canyon of a toebox. On two consecutive longer workouts, I got blisters from the forefoot wiggles. It's a shame that, for me (average-to-narrow feet), the shoe is a hair short and more than a hair too wide in the forefoot. The shoe is a rare combination of light, stable, and responsive. As many have noted, it's firmer than its little sibling the Cyclone 2, which I welcome for longer workouts. Many trainers of this caliber/price have a tippy, narrow heel platform that I don't do well with, so I really wanted to love the Specter 2. If Topo can make the Specter 3 a bit longer, narrower in the forefoot, and keep the broad footprint and superb midsole, I'm all in! Midfoot width was good, heel lockdown was difficult because of how aggressively the heel counter angles forward.

TopoI had a earlier version of the shoe and it was ok..not great but ok..I thought V2 might be better but after only 2 short runs there nothing is much different than V-1..still too stiff to be enjoyable and I think V-1 upper was more breathable..there are many shoes just like it..nothing to look forward to a run in..

New Design Doesn't Fit w/TopoI loved the original Specter. It was my go-to shoe for long runs and races. The Specter 2 is a disappointment. The upper is too tight and the formerly roomy toe-box is smaller than the original design. The new outsole was a bit of a shock as well. It looks like its made of styrofoam. The shoe was too uncomfortable for me to get more than a short run in, so I cannot attest to the responsiveness of the shoe. All in all, the Specter 2 is lacking the comfort of the original.
