Product Details:

If the original adidas adizero Prime X Strung was a rule breaker, then consider the Prime X Strung 2 a rule destroyer. The Prime X Strung 2 features a completely new design to deliver an even more innovative and (more importantly) faster ride than the previous version. While this shoe won't be seen on the feet of the pros at World Athletics sanctioned races due to its many illegal features, it is a fantastic option for the non-pro who wants to experience the most innovative ride that a running shoe can offer.

Starting with the midsole, the Prime X Strung 2 not only features the same mind blowing stack height of 50mm in the heel, but now also features a leaf spring carbon plate that has to be seen to be believed. Strategically placed within the leaf spring plate is an incredibly soft and bouncy foam insert in the forefoot called Energy Core. The combination of 50mm of Lightstrike PRO, the carbon leaf spring plate, and Energy Core results in an incredibly springy and energetic ride that makes running faster and farther easier than ever, making the Prime X Strung 2 an easy choice for long runs, race day, and everything in between.

In the outsole, this shoe features ultra grippy and durable Continental Rubber in the forefoot and a super sticky and incredibly lightweight textile rubber the rest of the way—a combination that works to deliver maximum traction and high performance in any weather condition. Wrapping this shoe up is the hyper-adaptable strung upper that provides more flex and comfort than the previous version.

Overall, the adidas adizero Prime X Strung 2 offers a completely unique look and ride and continues to push the limits of innovation so you can push past your own.

Temperamental trainerThis is my favorite trainer, though it has some faults and is probably not for everyone. The plastic eyelet is a dumb unforced error (on the designer's part), but after some initial discomfort, I got used to it. Hopefully the next gen will lose that. And with the stack height and soft foam, it's a little unstable on anything but straight decent roads or paths and easy turns. Not good for a mixed trail and road run. The openings on the sole collect gravel, which can be a drag, and I wish there was just a LITTLE bit more thickness in the sole rubber for durability. But in spite of all that, for marathon training runs - 12-20 mile progression runs or long interval runs - this shoe is amazing. You just want to run fast and enjoy the experience. All of my long runs are faster now and feel great. Recovery seems a lot better with great protection underfoot. So maybe not a jack of all trades, but if you are looking to run a fast-for-you marathon and want the best shoe for your long training runs, this (at least for me) is it.

Great shoe! Not for everyone, thoughtYes, this shoe is very expensive and therefore there's a lot of other shoes you can buy with that money, including all the crowd's favorite. In this sense, I would recommend this shoe only to people that have other shoes in their rotation and that are looking for a new ride experience, that only a shoe with this much technology can offer. Running in this shoe has quickly became addictive for me, even though I'm a "middle-of-the-pack" runner and a lightweight one (150 lbs). At the beginning, it was hard to compress that chunky midsole and get to the plates, in order to feel the bounce, however, after 20 miles, the foam feels now less denser and the ride way more pleasant. Lightness (for me) is not relevant if the shoe is unstable or non protective, that is unless you're running under 6:30 mins/mile, in which case it would be senseless to choose the AAPXS2. In conclusion, if you are looking for a shoe that can do everything, you have not try yet the other "popular" super trainers or you are training for shorter distances, this shoe is not for you; but if you're looking for a whole new ride experience and a shoe that feels fun, stable and protective for your long runs with marathon efforts in between, this is shoe will not disappoint at all.

So much worse than the originalThe original Prime Strung X was god tier running shoes. I think those are the best shoes ever. These ones... it's like they did a 180 on them. The ride is so much firmer and stiffer than the originals. It doesn't bounce like the old ones did. They are firm and hard. Also, a lot of people talk about the hard plastic in the upper lacing poking the heck out of your feet. This is true. I had to return the shoe because of this. On a 6 mile run, it rubbed my foot raw to the point where I had a bleeding blister.

Best shoe ever. PeriodI have own Hoka, NB, Altra, Brooks, Saucony, and I only look for max cushion on any brand. This is my first Adidas... Best shoe I ever had. Period. adidas adizero Prime X 2 Strung I am not a competition runner, will never be so, when run I want to enjoy the experience, not concerned about time or weight of the shoes to maximize performance. This shoe gives me exactly that. YouTubers always have their favorite shoe or receive some kind of compensation to be bias. I recommend get the shoe and feel it yourself.

Marathon reviewShoes overall feel and felt great I did a few 6 mile runs prior to the NYC Marathon to feel them out since a lot of folks were saying they were heavy after a few miles but I felt great with them even after my marathon no blisters for me true to size in size 8 had the right snug feel and bounce I love them got a few more races coming up and will definitely use them again. Maybe me being military boots all the time I did not notice the weight.

Had High HopesAs someone that loved the Strung, but wanted more stability, I was really hoping it was going to be this. I will say it is more stable, but I found it to be a bit lumbering and bottom-heavy. Also felt a lot of rubbing in the ankle collar. It's not a terrible shoe, but at this price-point, it's going back.

Extremely forgiving for the kneesI'd been running for last 10 years. While training for the 2019 Boston Marathon I had a serious knee injury that required a very invasive surgery, high tibial osteotomy and meniscus cleaning. I started to run 2 months ago, a year after, and read about the adidas Prime x2. Thanks to this shoe, I am running regularly because of the protection it offers. I feel like running in a cloud and, even though the sole is very high, the shoe feels very light and responsive. It is definitively suited for long runs and daily mileage, not for competing. I have also tried these for controlled tempos and it behaves adequate. Highly recommended if you are looking for a forgiving shoe, suitable for long and daily runs, and amazing durability.

Best long runs trainerI had a knee surgery a year a go, meniscus repair and a high tibial osteonomy. For the last 3 months I have started to try very slow runs but this has been like start learning how to run again. One of mi biggest issue in this come back is the fact that I didn’t find a shoe with the right protection for my knees. After researching information I ended up buying this shoe. It has been a game changer for me, extremely forgiving for my knees at a point that I am now running at good rhythms, 8:00-8;30, with no issues at all. Is a shoe that propels you nicely, and in my case, that I run with a cadence of 185-230 it works great. I am. 6’ 196 pounds guy and the shoe works as a glove for my foots. I recommend this shoe for big guys like me, not sure if it will be this effective for smaller runners.

Prime X 2 SprungThis should be Prime X 2 Sprung because it springs you to your next stride. I weigh 190lbs. and I compress the foam well and feel the bounce back the entire run. The strung upper is accommodating to my wider feet. The midsole is more than enough cushioning and responsive when I run marathon pace and quicker. The outsole has no wear at all after 20 miles. The only difficulty was finding a good heel lockdown even with the runner’s knot. It was either tie laces looser and experience heel lift our have lace bite pain by my ankle. I solved the problem by purchasing adhesive heel grips and tongue pads. Now I feel no heel lift or lace bite and really enjoy these shoes for longer uptempo training and I will race in them too.

Like memory foam on a diving boardCompared to the Nike Invincible Gen 1's, these Strungs are a whole new ballgame. They're like thick memory foam on a diving board; comfy on the knees with a very responsive stride. While my speed didn't feel like it improved, I do believe I needed less effort for the same speed. The only downsides I've noticed so far are more-sore-than-usual calves and slight instability and rocky terrain.

Near perfect for bigger runnerI'll by saying I'm a sneakerhead. My rotation currently is Rocket X2, Vaporfly 3, Super Comp V2 and now the Strung x 2. I'm 6'0 205-210lbs run about 25-40 miles a week. I tried the first strung and hated how unstable it was at the heel and ended up returning it. The Strung 2 is more stable, its bouncy and the upper while kinda of stiff has not caused any blisters. The upper is very breathable and has no hot spots. My wife also bought a pair and loves them, shes a wide footer & I was shocked she didn't complain. The only down side to this shoe is the weight. But I I feel like its mostly noticeable while walking or super slow paces of like 11:30 -12:00 min/mile. The shoe feels great at 8:00 to 10:00min/mi pace. I would definitely recommend this shoe for longer slower runs. The price is definitely a turn off. If you do not want to spend $300+ the rocket 2 is fantastic. If you don't want to spend that much I'd go the the Super Comp trainer v1. Hope this helps.

Lots of tech but huge pain pointAdidas throwing the kitchen sink of technology in this shoe. Major issue is the small plastic upper piece on top of laces. It definitely hits/stabs into the top part of foot for most people it seems

Not for the light runnerReally enjoying this shoe so far. However, it’s not for everyone. I have all three versions of the Prime X, and this one is by far the best if you weigh over 200lbs. It may still work for those in the 160-200 range. Anyone under 200 may have difficulty compressing the two plates enough to get the benefits. It’s heavier than the previous strung, but far easier to run in. Slightly wider, it’s much more stable. I’m sure going with plates instead of rods has helped. I don’t really notice the weight on foot. It compensates by giving such a springy sensation. If I had to compare this shoe to another, I’d say it’s a lighter, slight firmer, more responsive SC Trainer V1. I’ll say it again, if you’re light, look for something else. Everyone else, especially Clydesdales like myself, it’s worth the hefty price tag.
