Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.
Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have a built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stable

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

Engineered with the durability for many race days, the 005 is norda's lightest and fastest trail shoe to date. Combining all the best tech the brand has to offer, the 005 is a new breed of trail super shoe that's ready to perform in the toughest race conditions.

The midsole is crafted with 100% Arnitel TPEE, a market-leading superfoam with a remarkable combination of lightness, speed, and energy return. This innovation allows runners to maintain peak performance over long distances, ensuring that every step is cushioned and powerfully responsive.

The upper is made of ultralight bio-based Dyneema, which is incredibly durable and breathable. Paired with the micro-suede tongue, it provides a comfortably snug fit, while perforations reduce heat buildup. Complete with the norda Fit-Lock System, it ensures stability and precision on technical terrain.

Lastly, what further sets the norda 005 apart from every other shoe on the planet is the Vibram Megagrip Elite outsole. How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Seems good, but durability is a question. While I normally wait until I’ve run in a shoe over 100 miles before reviewing, it seemed prudent to post one early here. Only one 13+ mile trail run (100% trails, no roads, in SoCal) so far. The shoe seems like it will be great in terms of performance (reminded me of a nimbler, less breathable and less protective version of 1st TNF Vectiv Pro). Lockdown will take some time to sort. But, the main issue is there is significant tread wear after only 13 miles. Little chunks of rubber have torn off the main treads on the toe and heel. Crazy. I still feel like I need to have them out on multiple 25+ mile runs to see if they will work for race day though and they definitely won’t survive that sort of mileage. I’d be surprised if these take me 200 miles before the tread is worthless. These shoes probably have a purpose for many people as single use race shoes, but for cost/benefit, buyer beware.

Love at First Run: My new favorite trail shoeEver since I got into trail running, I’ve always been curious about Norda shoes. But honestly, the price held me back. They’re not cheap. Still, when I saw the new Norda 005 drop, I just couldn’t resist buying this shoe. So today, I finally took them out for their first trail run. First impressions & what I love: These shoes are insanely light. The fit? Absolutely perfect—nothing feels out of place or in the way. The midsole is super impressive with both great responsiveness and cushioning. To be honest, it feels lighter and more fun to run in than a lot of road running shoes I’ve tried. The outsole lugs really grip the ground—today’s run included some rugged terrain and a sudden downpour that left rocks and trails slick, but traction was never an issue. There’s plenty of room in the toe box, so my feet felt relaxed. No heel slip either—the shoes lock you in nice and snug. Any downsides?: Well, not exactly a downside—more like a design trade-off. Because the midsole is so plush and supportive, you don’t feel the ground as much underfoot. On steep downhill sections with rocky terrain, it’s a bit harder to get that quick, responsive feel. But honestly, unless you’re racing or an elite-level runner, this won’t be a dealbreaker. For someone like me who’s not chasing podiums, I take it slow on sketchy downhills anyway, no matter what shoes I’m wearing. Bottom line: This is an amazing pair of trail shoes. Sure, they cost $325—but you’re getting a top-tier performer for that price. And they look great, too. You could totally wear them as everyday shoes. That ridiculously good comfort and midsole performance shines on trails and roads (today’s route was about half trail, half paved). Most trail shoes feel too heavy and stiff for road use, but the Norda 005 is an all-around beast. As long as you’re not bombing down super steep descents, it’ll handle pretty much any trail with ease and joy. Norda shoes are known for their durability, and I really hope the 005 holds up well too—I’m aiming for 1,000 miles. Oh, and one tip: definitely size up. I usually wear a 10.5 in running shoes, but went with an 11 in these. If you usually like a snug fit, you might even need to go up a full size. It’s been a while since I’ve been this happy with a pair of shoes. Can’t wait to log many miles together.

The Hype is RealI was hesitant to pull the trigger on a shoe at this price, but assuming the durability is similar to the 001s, these are dollar per mile one of the best value shoes. These things feel LUXURIOUS. A little lower stack than what I'm used to in the Mafate Speed 4, however, there is no sacrifice in comfort. In fact, these feel even better underfoot than the Hokas. With a balance of cushion and light weight, they really mold to your feet, becoming an extension absent of any discomfort. Some people cited issues with the heel on the 001, I had no issues in these. Perhaps the best lockdown I've ever had in any shoe. They are super nimble and love to rip. Traction was stupendous through loose gravel, wet rock, and mud. These boys are sticky. Love the minimalist look as well. Would not be too concerned with the white color way, they look even better mud-stained. Can't wait to log more miles in these! Highly recommend.

In a Class of Their OwnThese shoes are what happens when a company thinks completely outside the box and wants the absolute best in materials. The upper breathes well, holds my very average foot beautifully, and is a lesson in less-is-more. The forefoot upper + midsole platform is quite wide which helps prevent hot spots + toe damage, and it results in this feeling of planted confidence when shredding downhill. I have zero problems with foot hold on extremely technical terrain. These enable rock carving for enthusiastic downhill people like myself as few other shoes have ever done. The midsole is very unique feeling with great energy return, and it's just the right thickness for just about anything (though mortals like myself should probably stick to 50K or less, more efficient people can take these any distance). The outsole grips extremely well despite its minimal tread. I haven't tested these extensively in the wet, but brief creek forays indicate great grip on saturated, smooth limestone. I expect the outsole will be the first component to wear down just given its stickiness and based on the experiences of the Conversational Pace guys. Interestingly these are the easiest to clean shoes I've ever owned. Rinse and they look new. Also, did I mention that these are beautiful? I often find myself picking them up and admiring their construction and the feeling of everything. $$$? Yeah, but no shoes have ever made me this pleased every time I lace them up and shred trails and hills or merely pad around gentler dirt. So light. So secure. So fun. So worth it.
