Our In-Depth Look

The Nike Vomero Premium is for you if...

You're looking for a tall, max cushion shoe

You want a supremely bouncy, plush underfoot experience

You want a shoe that will protect your joints while running

What is the Nike Vomero Premium made for?

One of the great things about Nike is the variety of shoe types that they offer. Whatever category you're shopping for, Nike provides nuanced offerings that cater to different styles of runners, types of runs, and foot shapes.

While Nike has been working hard recently, producing multiple max cushioned daily trainers, each with their own points of emphasis, the Vomero Premium feels like the crown jewel of their efforts. Compared to the Structure, which is more support-focused, or the Pegasus Premium, which is more responsive, the Vomero Premium stands out as the most cushioned, most comfortable offering in Nike's quiver. They sought to create an "anti-gravity experience" in the shoe and, as bold as that claim is, the upper, foam, Air Zoom units, and geometries all work together to justify the marketing. There's no point in hiding it. We love this shoe, and we're excited to explain why you'll love it too.

Comfort

We found the entire shoe to be very comfortable. In the upper, the tongue was soft and moved with us well. The heel collar was snug and kept heel slippage and friction to a minimum.

Underfoot, the shoes were protective while adding a fun "pop" to each step thanks to the air units in the midsole. They're very tall shoes that don't seem especially wide at first glance, so we were worried that they might be unstable. But our worries vanished when we slipped the shoe on our foot. Overall, we found the Vomero Premiums to offer a fun, comfortable, dream-like ride.

Performance

The Vomero Premium goes above and beyond what it's intended to do.

For both our beginner runner and our more advanced reviewer, this was the shoe that made us feel like we could run longer and faster. From walking to casual jogs to picking up the pace, the shoe's incredible bounce-back properties protected our landings and provided incredible energy return. The Zoom X super foam is gloriously responsive, even by itself. The Zoom airbags are effective, providing the same pop that their names would imply. Together they're incredible. A dynamic duo that complement one another and creates a fantastically propulsive experience that's appropriate for almost any run.

The only drawback we found was the weight. For runners with smaller feet, the weight of the shoe is negligible against the pure fun of the run provided. However, for runners with larger feet, we could see the shoe's heaviness ramping up enough to tip those scales.

Fit

Like everything else about this shoe, we really enjoyed the fit.

We felt locked in at the heel, and found that our feet had a good amount of room everywhere else. The toe box was roomy enough for our toes to spread out, but snug enough that thicker socks were enough to achieve a more hugged feeling, for those that preferred it. The upper is breathable, with the tongue and heel padding adding nice touches of comfort and elevating the already premium experience.

For sizing--the fit is overall fairly generous, but also very adaptive. We found that we could make adjustments easily if we wanted a tight, secure fit, or a more relaxed wrap. The length ran true to size, and we experienced no hotspots.

Individual Thoughts

GraceOverall Score: 10/10

The Nike Vomero Premium quickly became one of my favorite shoes I’ve gotten to test this year! Similar to the Mizuno Neo Vista 1 and 2, the Vomero Premium is a really fun shoe to run in. It has next-level cushioning that will protect you for as far as you want to go, while the two big Air Zoom units bounce you forward. It felt premium throughout. The upper has a nice cushioned tongue and heel cup, the midsole dampens impacts on the roads, I felt locked in, and my runs felt easy every time I put on the shoe. I wouldn’t change a thing, 10/10!

Overall, this shoe was amazing. It truly shocked me in the best way possible. The only somewhat bad thing I could say about this shoe is that it fits a bit big, but that’s all. It didn’t feel too tight across my foot or cause unnecessary pain. The shoe performs the way it is designed to. I was able to run faster, longer, and it felt like the shoes delayed tiredness in my joints or legs. It pushed me back up effortlessly when I hit the ground. The energy return that this shoe gives is amazing.

BeckyOverall Score: 9.5/10

The Vomero Premium is my favorite type of shoe--maximum cushion and comfort, with a bouncy midsole. For me, Nike nailed the execution, despite it being a bit on the heavy side. The fit, the upper, and mostly the incredibly high midsole are what I love most. They make running easier and more enjoyable, and who doesn’t want that? I could go on and on about how much I love the Vomero Premium, but honestly, I’d rather lace them up right now and go for a run!
